VOTE for KD We're Topping Our EU Election List with Two Candidates That ENGELSKA VOTE FOR KD We’re topping our EU election list with two candidates that are anything but lagom. SARA SKYTTEDAL followed by DAVID LEGA. Together they form a strong top duo that will give us at least two mandates in the European Parliament. Do you want to get involved in the new Christian Democrats? Sign up as a member! KD.nu/medlem SARA SKYTTEDAL: “The Swedish people’s strong support for the EU cannot be taken for granted.” The EU is at a crossroads. On the one hand, there are those who are openly hostile towards the EU who are clear about their intentions to divide the Union. On the other hand, there are those who suggest an increase in supranationalism, with the ambition to create a European superstate. Both options are equally destructive and threaten the Union’s legitimacy and long-term survival. The Christian Democrats are running to stop both these forces. We must realize that the Swedish people’s strong support for the EU cannot be taken for granted. The primary task of any friend of the EU is to ensure that the cooperation maintains the right focus in the future. During the next term of office, we risk seeing how power over welfare issues is moved from Sweden to Brussels. The Social Democrats have already paved the way for the EU to gain influence over family policy, and now we see that other areas of our welfare system may also be regulated. Regulation of everything from childcare and unemployment insurance to housing policy are being discussed. These are areas we think Sweden should have sole power over. When we talk about the EU needing to be lagom, we’re talking about concentrating on the foundational tasks of the cooperation – focusing on solving shared problems and contributing to growth. DAVID LEGA: “I want to be a voice for those who have the hardest time making themselves heard.” The EU needs to have the capacity to act and the courage to deal with the mutual challenges that face all its member states, issues such as the environment and international crime. However, my primary driving force is the struggle for human rights, dignity, and freedom. If I’m given the opportunity to represent you in the parliament, I will use my platform to be a voice for those who have the hardest time making themselves heard. The EU has contributed to creating the most prolonged period of peace and economic growth that Europe has ever experienced. That is why we must protect the European cooperation by safeguarding the integrity and autonomy of its member states. The EU shouldn’t dissolve our borders but help us work across them. The EU shouldn’t prohibit differences but bridge them. The EU shouldn’t be a country but a family of countries. My firm view is that the EU must become better at making demands and putting pressure on countries that don’t respect their inhabitants’ human rights and freedom. With the help of diplomacy, grants, and sanctions, the EU can and must take more responsibility for defending human dignity. Both inside and beyond the Union’s borders. WHAT IS LAGOM? The word “lagom” may be uniquely Swedish, but its meaning can still be applied outside of Sweden’s borders. Often translated “enough, sufficient, adequate,” the best way to sum it up is probably “just the right amount.” KD thinks that the EU should be lagom. The EU should focus on issues that demand joint solutions and stay away from anything that’s better handled on a national level. THE EU SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM SWEDEN’S WELFARE POLICY Recently, the EU adopted rules about parental allowance; a topic we think the countries themselves should decide over. THE EU SHOULD WORK TO CREATE MORE JOBS By making it easier for entrepreneurs, businesses, and economic exchanges between countries in the Union, the EU can create jobs and contribute to growth. More needs to be done. Through trade with other parts of the world, more jobs will be created here at home. THE EU SHOULD TAKE VIGOROUS ACTION FOR THE CLIMATE The EU needs to lead the transition to green. The EU has the world’s most ambitious emissions trading system, which it needs to continue to develop. Countries outside the EU also need to be convinced to join. THE EU BUDGET SHOULD BE MODERATE The EU Commission wants to increase Sweden’s membership fee drastically and introduce EU taxes. We think that’s wrong, and that we should re-prioritise the EU budget instead. VALUES YOU CAN TRUST KD puts human dignity first and wants to prioritise that which is essential to building a society that sticks together. It was Christian Democrats that laid the foundation for the Union after the Second World War. Through the Union, countries that had been at war with one another were able to preserve the peace, strengthen democracy, and improve welfare together. These foundational values are still important today. However, right now we’re concerned that the Union won’t stick together. To fight for a lagom EU is to protect the union.

  • Priority Question for Written Answer
Priority question for written answer P-006768/2020 to the Commission Rule 138 Tomas Tobé (PPE), Sara Skyttedal (PPE), Jessica Polfjärd (PPE), Jörgen Warborn (PPE), David Lega (PPE), Arba Kokalari (PPE) Subject: Hydroelectic power requirements in the draft delegated act related to the Taxonomy Regulation Sweden has one of the world’s most sustainable energy mixes, with most energy coming from hydroelectric and nuclear power. In the transition to a fossil-free society, we are seeing an increase in the demand for non-carbon electricity, which means that we need to keep our current energy sources and increase their quantity. Consequently, the draft delegated act that the Commission presented on 20 November 2020, in which the approach is no longer technology-neutral and hydroelectric power faces stricter requirements than, for example, solar and wind power, would have severe consequences for the Swedish power supply. The hydroelectric power requirements also go further than they do in the current EU legislation. Therefore, the Commission is acting in a manner that is contrary to the existing legislation. The results from this delegated act could be catastrophic if the requirements for hydroelectric power are adopted, with 40 % of our energy mix deemed unsustainable, and few hydroelectric power stations would be able to continue their operations owing to the stricter requirements. It will also be more challenging for Sweden and the EU to reach their highly ambitious goals. Why has the Commission departed from the principle of technology neutrality? Why is the Commission going further than the current Union legislation when it comes to hydroelectric power? PE662.674v01-00.

Redan år 2000 antog kommissionen ett s k “Green Paper on Environmental Issues of PVC”.
