Two for the Show A Look Back at Theatre Palisades’ Storied Past

By GABRIELLA BOCK Reporter

acific Palisades’ beloved local theater company Theatre Palisades Pis celebrating its 30th production season at Pierson Playhouse this year, a legacy that includes thousands of performances by talented thespians from all around the globe. Founded in 1963 by television writers Jacquie Chester, Ken Ros- en and Sheldon Stark, the theater ensemble got its start performing at the Pacific Palisades Jewish Community Center and, later on, around town venues including Palisades Park and Rustic Canyon Park. In 1988, Theatre Palisades moved into its permanent, 125-seat Temescal Canyon Road Playhouse named after Lelah and J. Town- ley Pierson, who had generously donated the property to the drama group. Since then, the local theater company has evolved to include youth performances and an actors’ troupe, and has even helped launch the career of now-Oscar nominated actress Amy Adams, who made her LA stage debut as Babe McGrath in Theatre Palisades’ 2000 produc- tion of “Crimes of the Heart.” And while some may say stage drama is a dying art, Theatre Pal- isades continues to grow—producing powerful performances, selling out opening nights and delighting audiences to whom the rich spirit of theater is very much alive and flourishing. Before she was a Hollywood glamour queen, actress Amy Adams (right) starred in Theatre Palisades’ “Crimes of the Heart” in 2000. In honor of its anniversary, Theatre Palisades will be gifting one Photo courtesy of Theatre Palisades lucky Palisadian-Post subscriber with two tickets for its current pro- duction of “The Price,” a dramatic and emotion-rich play penned by mid-century playwright Arthur Miller. The winner, to be drawn by lottery, will be announced next week.
