In 2015, the Republic of Azerbaijan adopted the UN Sustainable Development Goals and mobilized its forces to achieve the goals set out in the program. As one of the driving forces in the country’s economy, SOCAR seeks to align its activities and initiatives with the Sustainable Devel- opment Goals. We have already begun to set targets to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by the year 2030. In light of the need to adapt to rapid development and changes in the world oil and gas industry and to keep pace with global competition, SOCAR began the draft- ing of “SOCAR’s Corporate Strategy to 2035” based on its “Comprehensive Strategic Development Plan to To overcome these challenges, we need to develop our 2035”2025” that was approved in 2011. -
Six-Year Success Story of Baku Higher Oil School
For mass media Six-year success story of Baku Higher Oil School Six years ago, on November 29, 2011, a new higher educational institution, which dramatically differed from others, was set up upon a decree of President of the Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev. It was Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) set up within SOCAR with a mission to turn oil capital of Azerbaijan into human capital. This year BHOS hold it first graduation ceremony, thus proving that the mission has been carried out successfully. In 2012, BHOS signed Memorandum of Understanding with Heriot-Watt University (HWU) in Edinburgh, Scotland. On 10 April 2012, Elmar Gasimov was appointed a rector of BHOS by a decree of the President of the Azerbaijan Republic. In May 2012, Rector Elmar Gasimov and the Principal of HWU, professor Steve Chapman signed Cooperation Agreement on joint preparation of engineering specialists. The year of 2017 will always remain as a remarkable year of the BHOS history. On May 1, BHOS new campus, the largest in the Caucasian region, was opened by the President of the Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev. Having highly appreciated the Higher School activities in his speech at the opening ceremony, the President, in particular, said, “It is a very significant day in the life of our country today. We are celebrating the opening of a campus of Baku Higher Oil School. It meets the highest standards. Baku Higher Oil School has been operating for six years. It has been very successful. Over these years, the school has earned itself a worthy place in the sphere of education in Azerbaijan. -

In 1996, Total opened its office in Baku, and has been engaged in exploration since then. From the outset Total aimed at developing a long-term partnership with Azerbaijan by participating in strategic projects of mutual benefit. In 1997, Total entered the Lenkoran-Talish Deniz exploration block project, a partnership with Chevron on the Absheron block. Early exploration results were not promising. In 2005, Total joined the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Consortium (BTC) transporting crude oil from Baku to the port of Ceyhan in Turkey. -
