Cfabre-Champions Carl Carl Fabre 7th Grade St. Francis Middle School P.O. Box 1110 St. Francis, KS 67756 Mrs. Gibson 292 words Champions Champions! The Los Angeles Lakers has won the 2010 NBA championship! I was so excited that I was jumping up and down. I couldn’t stop jumping and screaming that day. My mom told me to settle down. She said that our neighbor Sylvia is probably wondering what’s going on in our house. My parents are not Laker fans. Every time we watch a Laker game they always go for the other team. The Los Angeles Lakers are a two time defending champions. They have won the 2009 and 2010 NBA championship. The Lakers have gone to the finals three times in a row from 2008 to 2010. The Lakers have sixteen championships which is second most in the NBA. In 2008, they were defeated by the Boston Celtics. The Coach of the Lakers is Phil Jackson. Phil Jackson had eleven championship rings, six with the Chicago Bulls and five with the LA Lakers. He has also coached two of the greatest players ever played in the NBA, Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. In 2010 when the LA Lakers won the championship, it was the most epic NBA finals games I have ever seen. In that game, Kobe Bryant was struggling from the field only shooting about 6-24. Without Kobe Bryant, the LA Lakers could barely win. Then Derick Fisher and Ron Artest got into the game and started to make some shots. They made some three pointers and finally tie the game after being down by fourteen points in the fourth quarter. As a result, the LA Lakers won the finals. Win or lose the Lakers will always be my favorite team in the NBA. What is your favorite team? .

INTRODUCTION Over the last two decades or so, there have been a number of anti- trust cases brought against sports leagues. Some have involved restric- tions on competition for players; many have involved relocations or planned relocations by individual teams. In these cases, the plaintiff has typically claimed that the teams that comprise a given league have con- spired to restrain competition among them. The defendant leagues have denied that such a thing is possible - arguing that they are either, de facto, a single entity incapable of conspiring with itself or, at a minimum, a joint venture acting pro-competitively. This paper lays out the economic analysis involved in understanding such issues, using as a leading example the case of the Chicago Bulls and WGN (the independent television superstation in Chicago) versus the National Basketball Association.1 Professor Fisher, one of the co-au- thors, was the economic expert testifying on behalf of the NBA in the second of two lawsuits relating to this matter.2 The matter began in 1990 when the NBA, and its member teams, voted to reduce the number of games that could be telecast by a super- station.

  • NBA's REVIVAL IS PURE MAGIC by Michael Wilbon
NEWSLETTER #23 - 2005-06 NBA'S REVIVAL IS PURE MAGIC By Michael Wilbon Don't get me wrong, the NBA has had great teams since Michael Jordan retired from the Chicago Bulls after the 1997-98 season. The San Antonio Spurs teams, particularly the ones with Tim Duncan and David Robinson, could hold their own in any era. The Lakers of Phil Jackson, Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant were, at times, dominating and entertaining. And although great team play usually is enough to maximize interest in pro football and Major League Baseball, that simply isn't the case with professional basketball. The NBA has been, is now, and probably always will be a league driven by and dependent on its star power. It's been that way from Mikan and Cousy to Russell and Chamberlain to Oscar and West to Kareem and Julius to Bird and Magic to Sir Charles and M.J. to Shaq and Kobe. The greatest team in NBA history -- the 1992 Dream Team -- never even played a single league contest or a game of consequence on U.S. soil but was the most star-studded team ever put together anywhere. So there's a very easy answer to the questions of why these NBA playoffs have been so compelling, why TV ratings have been up and why there's a buzz about the NBA Finals in a way there hasn't been since Jordan's second retirement. After seven seasons of trying to convince fans that certain players were stars, the league has enjoyed a postseason where its most recognizable players led teams into the playoffs, then played the way stars historically have in the NBA.

  • Joey Eovaldi Syracuse University Analysis of Franchise Valuation The
Joey Eovaldi Syracuse University Analysis of Franchise Valuation The Boston Celtics Franchise is currently valued at 3.1 billion dollars, as of February 2020. In this section, we are going to evaluate what that valuation means and how it has recently changed, due to certain factors. The Boston Celtics were formed on June 6, 1946 by the Boston Garden-Arena corporation president, Walter A. Brown. They were originally a team in the Basketball Association of America (BAA) and became a part of the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 1949. The Boston Celtics were most recently bought in 2002 for $360 million by Wycliffe Grousbeck, Robert Epstein, Irving Grousbeck, Stephen Pagliuca (Boston Basketball Partners L.L.C.). With inflation, that is about equal to $523.5 million today. So, in retrospect, that was a great purchase in 2002 and it holds true today. The Boston Celtics were bought for about six times less than they are worth today, even with inflation accounted for. According to Forbes, the Celtics are ranked fifth in team value in the NBA, behind the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, and Chicago Bulls. After that, there is about a half billion dollar drop-off to the sixth team, the Los Angeles Clippers at $2.6 billion. It’s worth noting that both Golden State and Boston are the only two franchises valued in the top ten in the NBA that are not ranked in the top ten most populated metropolitan areas in Canada and the United States of America. San Francisco and Boston both have a population of a little over 4.5 million, where New York has a population of over 20 million.

  • Chicago Bulls Keep Place As Most Popular Professional Basketball Team, Followed by Houston Rockets and Boston Celtics
The THE HARRIS POLL 1996 #3 For Release: Monday, January 22, 1996 CHICAGO BULLS KEEP PLACE AS MOST POPULAR PROFESSIONAL BASKETBALL TEAM, FOLLOWED BY HOUSTON ROCKETS AND BOSTON CELTICS Kentucky tops list of favorite college basketball teams with Duke and North Carolina in second and third place. by Humphrey Taylor The Chicago Bulls are still the nation's favorite professional basketball team and Kentucky is the most popular college team. The Bulls' popularity can be attributed to the exploits of Michael Jordan, America's most popular athlete. Also, the Bulls have the best record in pro basketball this year. Kentucky, which has a long tradition of producing strong college basketball teams, is thought by many experts to have one of the best (if not the best) teams this year. The Wildcats are currently number two in the Associated Press' mens college basketball poll. These are the results of a Harris Poll of 1,004 adults surveyed between November 30 and December 3, 1995. The Houst~nRockets edged out the Boston Celtics for second place among professional teams. Two years ago, the Rockets were in tenth place; their rapid rise in popularity is due in large part to their victories in the last two NBA championships. Another professional team which has moved up sharply since December 1993 is the Indiana Pacers to eighth place; they were not in the top fifteen two years ago. The Phoenix Suns have maintained their fifth place spot and the New York Knicks keep the fourth place. Louis Harris & Associates, Inc. 111 Fifth Avenue NYC (212) 539-9600 1 When it comes to college basketball, Kentucky, in fifth place in 1993, is now the i nation's favorite team, followed by Duke who was the favorite team two years ago.
