Introduction This resource has been developed to bring together information about some of the community-based organisations who provide assistance for adolescents and young adults who are diagnosed with cancer, as well as their families and friends.

The aim of the resource guide is to assist staff facilitating support for adolescents and young adults with cancer and their families.

The organisations are listed with their contact details, key areas and eligibility criteria for easy access. The resource has been collated into specific sections. As some organisations provide a number of services, they may appear in more than one section.

Referrals to community organisations can generally be completed by a staff member, however in some situations, families are able to communicate directly with the organisation. Background The Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) years are a time when individuals develop their self-image, seek autonomy and independence from their parents and deal with issues of emerging sexuality. Social and peer acceptance; career and education considerations and the desire for independence are among the issues to be considered when caring for the adolescent patient with cancer.

The Queensland Youth Cancer Service (QYCS) has been established to support young people with cancer aged 15 – 25 years, their families and carers. The QYCS team can provide medical, nursing and psychosocial support, and assistance in coordinating treatment for AYAs.

QYCS aims to support health professionals working with AYAs with cancer. QYCS provides professional development and education for health professionals.

Coventry University and Teenage Cancer Trust eLearning Webapp

Coventry University in association with Teenage Cancer Trust have designed a e-Learning Webapp for people new to working with Adolescents and Young Adults with Cancer.
