EASTERN UNIVERSITY POST-GRADUATION REPORT 2017 FIRST DESTINATION SU RVEY: TRADITIONAL UNDERGRADUATE BACCALAUREATE COLLEG ES

Eastern University Office for Talent and Career Development | www.eastern.edu/careers 2 TRADITIONAL UNDERGRADUATE BACCALAUREATE COLLEGES: Class of 2017 First Destination Survey ABOUT THE SURVEY

The first destination survey provides an overview regarding the status of Eastern University Traditional Undergraduate Baccalaureate (TUB) alumni within six to nine months of graduation. For the purposes of this survey, “Class of 2017” is defined as a TUB student who graduated in August 2016, December 2016, May 2017.

The Office for Talent and Career Development gathered statistics using the professional guidelines set forth by NACE (the National Association for Colleges and Employers). Using the First Destination Survey software in Handshake, the FDS survey was distributed electronically to TUB alumni in early 2018. Data was also gathered via paper surveys at December 2016 and May 2017 graduation rehearsals. Faculty members were contacted via email in spring 2018 about graduates whose status remained unknown. Additionally, information on non-responders was captured from updated professional profiles on social media sites (primarily LinkedIn) as well as employer webpages.

Through this extensive process, we obtained an 85% knowledge rate of the Class of 2017. “Knowledge rate”, as defined by NACE, is the “percent of graduates for which an institution has reasonable and verifiable information concerning the graduates’ post-graduation career activities.” Our intention is to provide a summary of first destination highlights, as well as a specific breakdown by TUB Colleges for the Class of 2017.

QUOTES FROM THE CLASS OF 2017: “I also have continued in a job I had during my time at Eastern as a sports writer for Philly Sports Network. I was the sole person covering soccer (Philadelphia Union, Bethlehem Steel, and United States international soccer) for the outlet my junior and senior year at Eastern. Now I am the leader of two other writers, and the sole editor of soccer content for the publication. We have just been granted full media access for the Philadelphia Union's 2018 season, and are making waves in the niche soccer community in the Philadelphia area.” “I got a full-time job working with families who have the Department of Mental Health or Department of Children and Families involved. I work with a team to help transition kids back home from out of home placements (group homes, rehab facilities) or help kids stay in their home with their families. My BSW has definitely made me feel more prepared with entering this field.” “I am in environmental and food justice education work. I work with elementary school kids in school gardens and lead classes on recycling and composting and environmental care. I write grants so that schools can have money to build gardens and work with the school community to maintain the gardens!” “I'm doing cancer research in the National Cancer Institute in Besthesda, MD. I'm able to put what I learned at Eastern into practice so that I'm able to continue my learning and pursue a doctorate degree.” “It's going great! I have what I currently consider my "dream job" right after graduating. I'm getting to use both of my majors (Spanish and Communications) and am doing meaningful work at MCC. I've found that Eastern University has really great name recognition at MCC, and many of my colleagues have attended EU for graduate or undergraduate studies.” “I have loved being in graduate school at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, NY, working towards teacher certification. I am able to substitute teach a few days a week while taking class at night. The work/school balance is really satisfying to me. Eastern really prepared me to thrive in grad school and as a sub!” “I'm very happy that I was able to transition right into a full time nursing position after graduation. I felt very prepared and blessed with all the opportunities I was given.” “I currently work for St. James school, a small episcopal middle school in the West Allegheny neighborhood of Philadelphia…Working here feels like home, and I have been blessed to find a place of employment that not only shares my values/philosophy of education, but also shares and practices my values in a spiritual sense as well.” “I am working as Program Director of New Person Ministries. I am on the Board of Directors of Lancaster County Reentry Management Organization and on the PA Reentry Council. I have had numerous and upcoming opportunities to speak at universities about my past and what I am doing now. God has opened so many doors.” “After getting my first job at Bryn Mawr Hospital, I fell in love with nursing and just started my BSN, where I am using a lot from my Exercise Science degree to help me succeed in this program.”

“I am a teacher and rehearsal director in Pottstown and a dancer in Melange Contemporary Dance Company. I am so thankful for the education I received with the dance department because it let me continue on in my passion. These opportunities have been wonderful since I have graduated from Eastern University.”
