Clanns in full flight against St. Sylvesters

With two senior round robin championship games played so far they are still seeking a first top-flight championship win in quite a few years. Losses to Kilmacud Crokes and St Sylvesters over the last two weeks have both played out in similar fashion: with Clanns leading coming into half time only to suffer a fade out in the second half. With big senior championship games ahead against Fingallians and Na Fianna the girls are confident that they can get to the pace required at this level. @Clannagaelfont

Dublin Football visits Clanns Large numbers of coaches, players and parents gathered at the club on Monday night to hear words of wisdom from Jim Gavin, Dublin Football Manager – and they certainly were not disappointed.

He frequently referred to the importance of hard work and the need for people to challenge themselves at all times in order to get the best out of Proud sponsors of Clanna Gael Fontenoy themselves. As far as he’s concerned, “you have only failed if you’ve given up”. He singled out three particular individuals whom he regards as role models: Star performance  John Wooden, former American basketball player and coach, for his The hurlers of Star of the Sea are Croke preparation and attention to detail Park bound, following their great semi- final win in Bushy Park this week.  Kevin Heffernan, former Dublin player and manager, for his Clearly, all the training they’ve been diligence doing at the club is delivering results!  Dermot Earley Snr, former Roscommon footballer and Chief of Staff

Declan Darcy, Clanns coach and Dublin selector presents Jim Gavin with a momento of his visit to the club

Among the many helpful tips he had for coaches – particularly for those working with younger age groups – was that skill development is central to your team’s success and should always take priority over competition. And he stressed how important it is to “always remember that you are a role model for the players”.

It was notable that, when asked after his presentation as to which other sports managers he most admired, he singled out Mickey Whelan – former Dublin football manager and Clanns club man!
