Philippine Prosperity through Filipino Chinese Entrepreneurship The 10th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention November 19-22, 2009, SMX Convention Center Thank you for your kind introduction and good morning to all. To the officers, members and organizers of the 10th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, it is my honor to share my experiences as a Filipino Chinese businessman with such an impressive group of entrepreneurs in this prestigious gathering. I would also like to extend my gratitude to the entrepreneurs present in this forum, who continue to make good business possible in spite of the many challenges our world is facing today. Despite living in the most challenging times, I remain optimistic. The world has taught me that there will be challenges, but there will be great opportunities as well. This forum is very timely. As we brace for more uncertain times, we draw strength and inspiration from the experiences of our fellow entrepreneurs. It is good to hear and share insights and perspectives and to learn about different paths taken during turbulent times - stories of successes, but also stories of failures, from which we learn. With your kind indulgence, let me begin to share with you the story of Jollibee amidst the many challenges we faced in the last 31 years. Like many businesses, when we started, our goal was modest, mainly to provide for the needs of our young and starting family. At that time, little did I know that the same business that provided for my family would one day also provide for many other families. -

Required Report: Required - Public Distribution Date: September 30, 2020 Report Number: RP2020-0070 Report Name: Food Service - Hotel Restaurant Institutional Country: Philippines Post: Manila Report Category: Food Service - Hotel Restaurant Institutional Prepared By: Ramona Singian Approved By: Morgan Haas Report Highlights: While the Philippine food service sector was set to grow eight-plus percent in 2020 to $16 billion, COVID-19 related measures have reduced prospects to less than $7 billion. Food establishments that have attempted to re-open have been forced to adapt to changes in regulatory requirements and consumer preferences while importers have been forced to create new sales channels to offset lost sales. Meanwhile, despite increasing competition and an expectedly less brilliant peak consumption outlook this 2020 holiday season, U.S. consumer-oriented agricultural exports to the Philippines remain on track to set a new record, $1.15 billion, by the year-end. Report Name:Philippine Broiler Market Trends and Prospects
Voluntary Report – Voluntary - Public Distribution Date: March 31,2020 Report Number: RP2020-0035 Report Name: Philippine Broiler Market Trends and Prospects Country: Philippines Post: Manila Report Category: Poultry and Products, Product Brief Prepared By: Approved By: Ryan Bedford Report Highlights: Boosted by rising incomes, a growing middle class, and robust demand in food service and retail, the Philippine broiler sector has surged over the past decade and is set to continue in the coming years. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) in Manila, Philippines commissioned the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P) to conduct a broad study on the Philippine broiler market, emerging trends, and prospects for future growth. THIS REPORT CONTAINS ASSESSMENTS OF COMMODITY AND TRADE ISSUES MADE BY USDA STAFF AND NOT NECESSARILY STATEMENTS OF OFFICIAL U.S. GOVERNMENT POLICY Introduction The Philippines is a fast-growing emerging market with a service-based economy and a population of 109 million in a combined landmass the size of Arizona. With increasing incomes and a burgeoning middle class, Filipinos are consuming more protein while also showing increasing preference for poultry. While pork had traditionally been the main protein source for Philippine diets, in 2019, chicken overtook pork for the first time in per capita consumption. As such and despite still present market access constraints limiting access to U.S. corn and poultry products, the Philippines continues to present long-term growth prospects for U.S. suppliers throughout the value chain, including in the form of agricultural inputs to support local poultry production, ingredients used by the local meat processing industry, and finished, consumer-ready products sold to retailers and food service providers. -
