Clais-An-Deor Cottage Logierait Clais-an-Deor Cottage Logierait Clais-an-Deor Cottage Logierait A rare opportunity to purchase this truly charming and historic 3 bedroom 2 public room detached home located within the quaint Perthshire village of Logierait and benefiting from generous accommodation, central heating, double glazing, a wealth of off-street parking, private garden grounds and some lovely country views. The property has undergone a complete transformation in recent years whilst retaining a high degree of character and has been extensively refurbished and upgraded to suit the needs and standards of modern day living. Conveniently located just off the A9, Logierait offers the ideal combination of a rural feel but with easy access to excellent road and bus links and various amenities and picturesque walks along the nearby River Tay and River Tummel. The property itself is steeped in history. Alexander Mackenzie, Canada’s 2nd ever prime minister was born here on the 28th of January 1822, perhaps bringing added interest for those celebrating the country’s 150th anniversary in 2017. The property is accessed via a welcoming vestibule with space for outdoor attire and a door leading into a large dining room/sitting room offering space for a range of furniture and with stairs to the upper level. Adjacent to the dining room is a superb lounge with an eye-catching high ceiling, wooden beams and ample natural light. Planning permission has been granted for the addition of a fourth master bedroom suite. Also located on the ground floor is a downstairs cloakroom toilet and kitchen fitted with a range of base and wall units with space for appliances. On the first floor there is a master bedroom with en-suite shower room, two additional double bedrooms and a charming bathroom fitted with a roll top bath, WC, wash hand basin and separate shower cubicle. The property sits centrally within the attractive grounds which have been very well maintained and landscaped. To the front of the property is a gated driveway providing a wealth of parking and some eye-catching dry stone walls, a pleasant patio/ seating area, an array of colourful plants and shrubs and an area of lawn. To the rear is a large section of lawn, a very useful utility store, a garden room/workshop providing added work or storage space and a large wooden lodge house which could be used as a workshop, store or indeed for accommodation. Adjacent to the property is a plot of ground with planning permission which may also be available to purchase with the property, either for use as a large garden or for developing. • Highland Perthshire Through the Archive
A Guide to the History and Culture of Highland Perthshire through the Archive Dick Fotheringham, bell ringer in the Aberfeldy area, c1930s Ref: MS316/31 Perth & Kinross Council Archive 1 Foreword While I have been a member of the Friends of Perth & Kinross Council Archive for some time I only became a Committee member last year. Thus my being asked to become the chair of the Committee at this year’s AGM was, from my perspective, rather rapid promotion! Now I have been given the great honour of writing this foreword to the Friends’ latest publication, a survey and guide to sources of information on every aspect of life in Highland Perthshire as encapsulated in the collections of the Archive. In it you will find a comprehensive overview of the huge range of collections relevant to this topic including history, genealogy, industry, settlements, estates and anything else you may be interested in. Some of the material is “official”, like local authority documents, police and Justice of the Peace records. However, there is also guidance on exploring community-based collections put together by local people who were determined their “story” would live on and be accessible to anyone who was interested. There are also many illustrations of documents of different types with informative notes beside each one. These are, of course, merely a glimpse of the rich and varied sources which exist and can be explored with the help of the staff of the Archive. A feature which we hope will be seen as innovative, and was the brainchild of the authors, is a specimen analysis of a document which is designed to show you what you can learn from it whether you are a family, house or local historian, or just interested in maximising the information that a document can provide.

You will notice the difference in style and content, which is down to our new associate edi- tors, David Wilson and Morag Sweet. I’m sure you will agree that their hard work and en- thusiasm has handsomely paid off. At this year’s AGM, members were treated to the Abernyte Heritage Group’s oral history presentation (reported inside). Thanks were expressed for the Friends’ volunteers’ hard work and that of the committee. Our particular thanks go to Christine Wood who is retiring as treasurer and who has done an excellent job during her term of office. We welcome Mr Pe- ter Stroyan who was appointed treasurer at the AGM and are pleased that Mr John Howat has been re-appointed as secretary.
