Level: Elementary Grammar: Subject pronouns, Present Simple of the verb to be • Notes: Daft Punk is a French electronic music duo consisting of musicians Guy-Manuel de Homem- Christo and Thomas Bangalter. They are popular for their elaborate live shows and use of disguises, particularly the ornate robot costumes. This song became Daft Punk's first UK No. 1 single in April 2013, remaining at number one for 4 weeks. According to the Spotify music streaming web site it is the most-streamed new song in the service's history (from Wikipedia) This is an ideal song to use in the first lesson for Elementary students to check their previous knowledge or introduce some basic English vocabulary and grammar. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 1. Give each student a copy of the folded worksheet and ask them to find the opposites alone or in pairs. bad – day – down – end (noun) – near – past – that Note: In the song ends at line 2 is a verb. Key: (at this stage any correct opposite is acceptable): good – night – up – beginning/start – far – present – this 2. Play the song. Ask students to listen for the opposites from the previous activity, correcting if necessary, and numbering them in the order they hear them in any form. Grammar Focus You can use the song to repeat or introduce subject pronouns ( I, we, she, you) and the Present Simple of the verb to be ( We are, She’s, I’m, We’re ), comparing the full forms with short forms.
