Junior LHP Jackson Wolf, sophomore RHP Ryan Bergert and freshman LHP Jake Carr each have had big moments early. • Following the first four weeks of the season, the trio has combined to pitch 74.0 innings, allowing just 15 earned runs on Big 12 Standings 42 hits, with 69 strikeouts and a 1.82 ERA and 0.82 WHIP. Big 12 Overall • Wolf, who didn’t allow an earned run in his first 19.1 IP this year, was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week after tossing Team Record Record Pct 7.0 innings in WVU’s season-opening win at Jacksonville on Feb. 14, allowing just one hit and no runs. Wolf struck out a Texas Tech 0-0 16-1 .941 career-best eight batters and didn’t allow a walk in 97 pitches. Wolf didn’t allow a hit for 6.2 innings, and he retired 18 Texas 0-0 13-3 .813 in a row at one point. He also pitched 6.1 shutout innings at Mercer on March 6, helping WVU tally another shutout win Oklahoma 0-0 13-4 .765 (6-0). TCU 0-0 11-4 .733 • Bergert was named one of Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s National Players of the Week on Feb. 24, after he struck out Oklahoma State 0-0 11-5 .688 14 in a win over Saint Joseph’s on Feb. 22, in Myrtle Beach, S.C. In his dominant performance, Bergert allowed just one Baylor 0-0 10-5 .667 run on two hits. His 14 K’s were the most by a Mountaineer since Nick Snyder’s 16 on April 30, 2019, against Marshall. Together, the group understands as well as anyone in the program about the honor and unique opportunity to represent the citizens of the Mountain State.
