They intercepted Jeff Mackel, Director Daunte Culpepper four times and recovered two fumbles. Las Vegas opened the 702-503-4832 scoring on two Steve Hauschka field goals of 47 and 44 yards to take an early 6-0 [email protected] lead. Kicker Fabrizio Scaccia scored Sacramento’s only points of the night when Andreas Kreutzer, Assistant Director he connected on a 41-yarder early in the second quarter. Hauschka made it 9-3 702-355-4734 before half. Locos running back Marcel Shipp found pay dirt from 5 yards out to [email protected] blow the game wide open with 11:03 to play. Hauschka added another field goal, and cornerback Wale Dada returned an interception 58 yards to seal the Locos’ 26-3 victory. Las Vegas lost two players late in the game, when starting quarterback Tim Rattay ruptured his Achilles’ tendon and starting defensive tackle Ross Kolodziej sprained his foot. LOCOS CLINCH BERTH IN CHAMPIONSHIP GAME The reigning champion Las Vegas Locos have clinched a return to the United Football League Championship Game as a result of Week 7 UFL games played on Thursday and Saturday. The other four UFL teams remain alive in the race for the right to face Las Vegas in the 2010 UFL Championship Game to be played on Saturday, November 27 in Omaha, NE. The Locos defeated the Omaha Nighthawks 24-10 on the road on October 28 to move to 5-1 atop the standings and the brink of a return to the Championship Game. Then on Saturday night, a dramatic last second field goal by Hartford Colonials kicker Taylor Mehlhaff earned a 27-26 win over the Sacramento Mountain Lions to ensure the Locos mathematically qualified for the post season. Only the Omaha Nighthawks or Florida Tuskers can now match the five wins recorded by Las Vegas, but because those two teams play each other twice in the remaining three weeks of the UFL season, either a sweep or a split series will mean only one and not both can challenge the Locos’ five wins, rendering potential tiebreakers irrelevant. LOCOS AWAIT CHAMPIONSHIP OPPONENT While the Locos have clinched their spot in the Championship Game, the other four teams in the league face three weeks of “playoff games”. Only one win separates the Mountain Lions and Colonials from the second place Nighthawks, and every game counts. The Omaha Nighthawks (3-2) have destiny in their own hands with three games to play and two victories needed to qualify. The Florida Tuskers (2-3) also control their own destiny, but with three wins required to guarantee setting up a repeat of the 2009 Championship Game. The Hartford Colonials (2-4) and Sacramento Mountain Lions (2-4) must seek to force a 4-4 tie for second place and also need help from the Tuskers and Nighthawks before the tiebreaker procedure comes into play. Tiebreaker scenarios that have been suggested by fans voting at Fanhouse.com and are currently being considered by the UFL Competitions Committee will help determine which of the other four UFL teams advance to the big show. SAILING ALONG Marcel Shipp scored his fourth rushing touchdown in as many games when he ran for a score in the Locos’ 24-10 win over the Omaha Nighthawks Thursday. He took a handoff from Drew Willy with 7:43 left in the game and scored from three yards out to give the Locos a 17-10 lead at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium. HOBBS NAMED DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK For the fifth time this season a Locos defensive player earned league honors for his outstanding play. Linebacker Brandon Moore received the Defensive Player of the Week award in Week 1 after recording 10 total tackles and one sack. Defensive end Eric Henderson earned league accolades for his effort in the Locos’ Week 3 victory over the Florida Tuskers. Henderson finished the game with two sacks for 18 yards and two solo tackles. Cornerback Isaiah Trufant gave the Locos their first lead in the team’s Week 4 victory over the Omaha Nighthawks, when he intercepted a Jeff Garcia pass and returned it 27 yards for a touchdown with 3:18 left in the second quarter. Trufant added a second interception later in the game that stalled a promising Nighthawks’ drive and received league honors. Safety Lewis Baker forced a fumble, recovered a fumble and caught an interception in the Locos’ 26-3 victory over the Sacramento Mountain Lions, in which the Las Vegas forced a total of six turnovers. Baker was named UFL Defensive Player of Week 5. Cornerback Kevin Hobbs is the latest Locomotive to win the award after breaking up three passes, intercepting Garcia once and adding 2.5 tackles in Las Vegas 24-10 Week 7 victory over the Nighthawks. Hobbs joined the Locos on October 10, and has made an immediate impact. In his first three UFL contests, Hobbs has recorded six total tackles, a half-tackle for a loss, an interception and four pass breakups. FASSEL RETURNS FOR SECOND SEASON After winning the inaugural UFL championship with the Las Vegas Locos in 2009, head coach Jim Fassel returns for a second year with the team. Under his guidance, the Locos finished with a 5-2 record in the Premiere season and defeated the Florida Tuskers 20-17 in the championship game. As head coach of the New York Giants, Fassel resurrected the career of quarterback Kerry Collins and received acclaim for his playoff guarantee in the 2000 season, during which he led the Giants to an improbable Super Bowl appearance. Fassel has a long record of offensive successes and has tutored other prominent quarterbacks including Phil Simms, Boomer Esiason, Jeff Hoestetler and John Elway. Prior to becoming the Giants head coach, Fassel was the team’s offensive coordinator and served in the same capacity with the Arizona Cardinals, Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders. Fassel was also the offensive coordinator to the Baltimore Ravens for the 2004 and 2005 seasons. He began his coaching career as an offensive coordinator at the University of Utah and Stanford University before being elevated to head coach at Utah.

137 PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME All-time Florida State gridiron greats Walter Jones and Derrick Brooks are used to making history. The longtime NFL stars added an achievement that will without a doubt move to the top of their accolade-filled biographies when they were inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame inAugust, 2014. Jones and Brooks became the first pair of first-ballot Hall of Famers from the same class who attended the same college in over 40 years. The pair’s journey together started 20 years ago. Just as Brooks was wrapping up his All-America career at Florida State in 1994, Jones was joining the Seminoles out of Holmes Community College (Miss.) for the 1995 season. Jones and Brooks were the best at what they did for over a decade in the NFL. Brooks went to 11 Pro Bowls and never missed a game in 14 seasons (all with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers), while Jones became the NFL’s premier left tackle, going to nine Pro Bowls over 12 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. Both retired in 2008, and, six years later, Jones and Brooks were teammates for the first time as first-ballot Hall of Famers.
