DAY 2 We will cross the international date line in-flight DAY 3 Arrive in Melbourne and be met by our exchange families. For the next seven nights, we will remain in Melbourne with our hosts (all services are by the group's own arrangements). DAYS 4-9 Homestay - Services in Melbourne are by the group's own arrangements. DAY 10 Fly from Melbourne today and arrive in Canberra - The capital of Australia! Begin the tour with a visit to Mt Ainslie Lookout and see the sights from afar. Visit theNational Museum of Australia for a guided tour and exploration. The National Museum of Australia preserves and interprets Australia's social history, exploring the key issues, people and events that have shaped the nation. Later visit the Parliament House, a meeting place for the official Parliament of Australia. Find some of Australia's finest historical treasures and contemporary art on display throughout the building, in both permanent and temporary exhibitions. Receive a guided experience and learn about the history of Australian government. Check in to hotel and overnight in Canberra. Have a unique dining experience at the Australian Institute of Sport. Receive a 45- minute guided tour and enjoy a buffet dinner. DAY 11 Head to Canberre Park Resort and begin your day at Namadgi National Park! Meet your Murumbung Ranger at the Rock Art Site Carpark off Boyboyan Road. Visit this highly significant rock art site before enjoying a 6 km walk with sweeping views of the Gudgenby Valley and surrounding mountains. Gain an insight into the rock art monitoring program and how Ngunnawal people and neighbouring nations gathered in the Gudgenby Valley for ceremony, marriage and trade. ‘Namadgi’ was named after the Aboriginal word for the mountain ranges in the south-west of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). The park covers over 106,095 hectares of the ACT and contains more than 160 kilometres of marked walking trails. Experience Aboriginal History, an abundance of native wildlife and unique natural environments. Freshen up before heading to dinner. DAY 12 Journey to Sydney today. This afternoon, head to Cook's Landing Park & Visitor Centre on Botany Bay. See the Kurnell Visitor Centre and learn about the European arrival through the center’s interactive displays. See how the area’s Aboriginal inhabitants lived at the time of Captain Cook’s landing find out more about Aboriginal people in the area. In 1770, Lieutenant (later Captain) James Cook landed at Botany Bay’s Inscription Point. He and his Endeavour crew stayed in the area for eight days and had a dramatic impact on Australian history. 1 DAY 12 Located near Silver Beach on the Kurnell Peninsula headland, Cook’s landing place is a popular Sydney attraction. Now heritage-listed, this reserve interprets the story of the meeting of European and Aboriginal cultures. Journey to the ‘The Rocks’ and take a guided Ghost walk and explore the area! DAY 13 Head to the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney - ‘People, Plants & Places’ guided Indigenous program. The Gardens and local Aboriginal communities work together to create themed gardens and displays in which you can also enjoy a Bush food tasting. Learn & acknowledge the significance of these lands to Aboriginal people, past and present. Later explore the Darling Harbour Project and drive over the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Explore the Circular Quay and view the Sydney Opera House! Cruise the most beautiful harbor in the world aboard the Mari Nawi (Big Canoe). Hear stories of the Cadigal, Guringai, Wangal, Gammeraigal and Wallumedegal people of Sydney Harbour and learn the Aboriginal names and meanings of significant Sydney landmarks, before stepping ashore on Be-lang-le-wool (Clark island, National Park). On the island, be taken on a journey of early settlement through our coastal lifestyle, uncovering traditional fishing methods and food gathering techniques, before participating in an exciting Aboriginal cultural performance. Freshen up at accommodation before heading out to dinner. Later see the Sydney Observatory ‘Astronomy’! Day and night are the most obvious short term changes in the sky but what causes them? Simple augmented reality exercises, a visit to a digital planetarium, and tracking the Sun’s movement all help to show young learners that things move in a regular way. This magnificent 1858 building is a showcase of how the needs of the astronomers were included in the built environment. DAY 14 Experience the Blue Mountains on the scenic cableway, which takes you on a 545 meter ride into the World Heritage-listed rainforest of the Jamison Valley. Once at the bottom, experience the 300m scenic walkway on your way to the base of the Scenic Railway. The railway is the steepest incline railway in the world. Get on the Scenic Skyway, where we are suspended 270 meters above ancient ravines; the Skyway provides a unique thrill as breathtaking views are revealed beneath your feet through the electro-glass cabin floor. Visit the Waradah Aboriginal Center, where you can enjoy an interactive talk on traditional Aboriginal culture looking at how Aboriginal people lived in a sustainable way in a natural environment for thousands of years. Explanations of traditional painting techniques and symbols used in Aboriginal desert art are given and background to the Desert Painting movement is explained. Enjoy individual boomerang decorating and painting workshop under guidance, keeping the result! In the Performance Theatre students enjoy traditional Aboriginal song, dances and didgeridoo playing and further information regarding Aboriginal culture. 2 DAY 15 Head to Taronga Zoo today for the For the Wildlife Education Workshop - a hands-on lesson, a wildlife adventure trail, unlimited use of sky safari cable car and later lunch and tea. Start with the Wildlife Walkabout Adventure: a fun and educational adventure trail, focusing on using English Language skills whilst exploring the zoo and learning about many native Australian animals. Every student who solves the mystery receives a small prize and a chance to win a major prize. Come “face to face” with a variety of native Australian animals, providing the opportunity to see, touch and learn about their unique characteristics. Animals may include: koala, wombat, possum, carpet python, lizard, kangaroo, echidna, fruit bat, cockatoo, emus and more. Do the BridgeClimb today! Latching on in the Climb Base below the Bradfield Highway, you will walk on catwalks below the road-deck until you reach the South-East Pylon. Here you will ascend 4 ladders to the start of the upper arch, surrounded by the hum and buzz of Sydney’s traffic. With the summit in your sight, your journey continues along the Bridge’s outer arch on the Opera House side until you hit the top. After a summit celebration with your group, you cross the spine of the Bridge to the Darling Harbour side to make your descent to the Climb Base. DAY 16 Our rewarding and enjoyable experience comes to an end as our Tour Director accompanies us to the airport on our final day.
