The Board of Governors of 's State System of Higher Education unanimously selected Dr. Kenneth S. Hawkinson to be the next president of Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, effective July 1. Dr. Hawkinson is provost of Western Illinois University, a position he has held since January 2012. He was hired there in 1988 as an assistant professor in the Department of Communication. He also is a former military officer, having served in the U.S. Army as both an Infantry officer and a public affairs officer.

According to Board of Governors Chair Guido M. Pichini, "Dr. Hawkinson has had a long and impressive academic career. With his wealth of knowledge and experience, we are confident he will be an excellent leader for Kutztown University."

"My wife, Ann Marie, and I are very excited about joining the university community and becoming active citizens of the town and region," said Dr. Hawkinson. "I was impressed with the passion and dedication of the students, faculty, staff, alumni and the many others connected with the University, and I look to meeting with these many groups after my arrival in July."

Social Work in Leadership and Education Doctoral Program

Kutztown University is excited to offer its first doctoral program ever beginning this fall! The doctorate program, "Social Work in Leadership and Education," will be one of only two doctorates in social work offered in Pennsylvania once approved by the Middle State Commission on Higher Education. The program, in collaboration with Millersville University, is being designed for professional social workers who are ready to take on advanced leadership positions, enabling them to obtain executive and academic posts. The program will take three years to complete, and coursework will be completed online and through intensive weekend classes.

Ziad Haddad: Two-Time Division II National Heavyweight Champion

Ziad Haddad's successful career as a Golden Bear came to a close at Saint Louis University's Chaifetz Arena, when he defended his national title and became a two-time Division II national heavyweight champion and three-time All-American for the Kutztown University wrestling program. Haddad went 4-0 through the two-day national tournament, capped with an 8-6 decision over the third-ranked wrestler in the championship finals. For his amazing efforts during the season, Haddad was named Division II's Most Dominant Wrester of the Year. As a team, Kutztown's four national qualifiers led their peers to tie for 14th place finish, the best in program history.

The Basics of Credit, Brought to You by PSECU

April may be National Financial Literacy Month, but at PSECU, financial literacy is a priority every month. Because they're a credit union, it's especially important to them to help their members understand how credit works. They're also committed to the "people helping people" philosophy central to all credit unions. In that spirit, they have provided this credit primer:

 Credit - Your ability to borrow money or receive goods based on the belief that you will repay the debt in the future  Credit Report - A record of your financial history (think academic transcript)  Credit Score - A three-digit that rates your likelihood to repay a debt - your credit score is calculated using the information in your credit report.

Credit can play a significant role in not only obtaining a credit card, auto loan, or mortgage with a good rate, but also in securing a job or even a promotion. Be sure to monitor your credit regularly, and watch out for scams that will charge you for information you should receive for free. Request your free annual credit reports from annualcreditreport.com and check with your financial institution to see if they offer any free credit monitoring services, such as the free credit score service* that PSECU offers to eligible members.

To learn more about PSECU, go to www.psecu.com/kualum.

*PSECU is not a credit reporting agency. Members must have PSECU checking or a PSECU loan to be eligible for this service. Joint Owners are not eligible. PSECU is federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration. Equal Opportunity Lender
