This year’s chocolate extravaganza was an amazing success. A record 610 guests attended our Storybook Ball. Guest of honor and Award of Excellence recipient Erin Andrews of ESPN, Good Morning America and Dancing with the Stars graciously chatted with attendees before accepting her award.

The four-sided martini bar created decadent chocolate martinis designed especially for the event by favor donor Monin. Busch Gardens Tampa Bay provided an abundance of colorful entertainers, from violinists, ballroom dancers, stilt walkers and some favorite critters including a 14-pound Flemish rabbit.

New electronic bidding enabled guests to outbid each other on their favorite silent auction items with ease from anywhere in the venue. After dinner, a flip-book photo stand and casino tables added to fun, while the band Hologram kept many on the dance floor.

Guests departed with specially prepared favors courtesy of Harry & David and Monin. Thank you to all of our sponsors, donors, guests and volunteers who made this year’s event a huge success for RMH families.

My human, Kathleen Johnson- Esterly, puts a badge on me that says Dog Therapy, so I feel qualified in saying I am a therapist. As you can see, I am a Welsh Springer Spaniel. I have been visiting families at RMH for five years, (or fifteen years in dog years.) I also visit sick kids at All Children’s Hospital, and make special appearances at the public library and community events. As a therapist, I have to be an extremely good listener. The kids like to read to me, snuggle with me and play with my soft long ears. I have learned to be calm around them, because they scare easily. Last year I was honored to be named a Yerrid’s Hero during the Tampa Bay Fights Cancer hockey game. They even gave me a special dog jersey...that was amazing! Now that I’m a celebrity, I have created my own special photo to leave with the kids so they can remember me after our visit. I really love my job; it makes me happy all over. Kathleen keeps me very busy. She tells me she is now in charge of the volunteer Dog Therapy program for RMH. I guess that makes me the Head Dog - I’m up to the challenge!

Tampa Bay Lightning Star is ALL IN for the kids and families at Ronald McDonald House! We are excited to announce that Steven Stamkos is our celebrity spokesperson for this year’s Light a Light & Share a Night campaign to underwrite family stays at our four Houses. Stamkos will be featured in our media campaign to encourage public support of our charity.

Be sure to watch for our holiday card, and other media placements to celebrate the joy of the season and join Steven Stamkos in going ALL IN 4 KIDS this holiday season. Just think - your kindness can give a child the priceless gift of having a parent by their side during illness or injury.

Please help us care for the 2,000 families who stay with us each year while their sick or injured children receive treatment in nearby hospitals. Any donation is greatly appreciated and makes a world of difference for our families.
