About 4 miles north of the city is this Elizabethan farmhouse – now a National Trust property. King Charles 1`1 is said to have hidden here after the battle of Worcester in 1651 during the English Civil War. The house is open at weekends and limited days during the week. During the winter the house is open on Sundays only.

Wightwick Manor is a Victorian manor house with Morris interiors and colourful gardens. It is one of only a few surviving examples of a house built and furnished under the influence of the Arts and Crafts movement. It is now a National Trust property. Bantock House Museum and Park, is a museum of Edwardian life and local history, with 48 acres (190,000 m2) of surrounding parkland. It was built in the 1730’s and improved during occupancy by Thomas Herrick about the beginning of the 19th century when it was renamed Merridale House.[1] Around 1864, it was bought by Thomas Bantock, a canal and railway agent and passed on to his son Albert Baldwin Bantock, who was twice Mayor of Wolverhampton and also High Sherriff of Staffordshire. On his death, without children, in 1938, he bequeathed the house and park to Wolverhampton Corporation. The house was renamed in his honour in 1940. It is a Grade II listed building, which is now run by Wolverhampton City Arts and Museums service.

Bratch Locks

About 6 miles west of the city in the village of are the Bratch Locks. An impressive set of three locks on the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal complete with toll house that was opened in 1772. It’s a popular spot with walkers, fishermen and families at weekends.

Over 700 different varieties of roses are planted in the garden which now covers around 2 acres (0.8 HA). The garden is divided into a number of smaller areas, each with its own style. The overall concept is to enclose the exuberant and rather informal growth of the roses within neatly clipped evergreen hedges. The gardens are open to the public 7 days a week, 9am to 5pm and entry is free.
