Bob Marley's Music As an Alternative Communicative Channel In
Bob Marley’s Music as an Alternative Communicative Channel in Postcolonial Movements for Development and Social Change Cara-Marie Findlay Media, Globalization and Development Malmö University October 2020 Findlay 1.2 Essay Introduction 1 Bob Marley’s Music as an Alternative Communicative Channel in Postcolonial Movements for Development and Social Change The mediatization of the world is an important concept to understand in connection to development and social change. As Martin Scott states, “Media not only increase[s] our access to knowledge of events happening around the world, but also (seemingly) enable[s] us to influence them” (Scott, 2014, p. 1). There seems to be a tendency “to focus on the very latest technological supports” (Mattoni & Treré, 2014, p. 255) when considering the social movements of the present. This “technological-fascination bias” often neglects “the relevance that prior technological supports had and continue to have in social movements” (Mattoni & Treré, 2014, p. 255). There is no doubt that today’s technology affects “mediation processes”—the flow, circulation, and interpretation of media (Mattoni & Treré, 2014, p. 260), which in turn affects social movements. However, in the age of the Internet with its latest applications, it can be easy to neglect the roles of alternative media, such as music, in social movements. “Music [has] played an integral role in social movements and liberation movements” (Prestholdt, 2019, p. 77). This essay focuses on Bob Marley’s Music as an alternative communicative channel in postcolonial movements for development and social change. In the context of this essay, postcolonialism refers to both: condition—the state of being after colonialism and imperialism; and to anti-colonialism—against all forms of colonial power (McEwan 2018, pp. -

Get Up Stand Up sarebbe stato ufficialmente l'ultimo brano proposto live. -

Knickerbocker: That’s Why I’m Lonely: Ideology of the Absurd “It is not only our reality which enslaves us,” according to Slovenian psychoanalytic philosopher Slovoj Zizek, “when we think that we escape it into our dreams, at that point we are within ideology” (Pervert, 2012). It has long been the task of cultural criticism to uncover the functioning value systems which guide our actions and structure the ways in which we make sense of our experiences. All stories, as cultural productions, take for granted certain assumptions as to the way things are, the way things came to be, and the way things ought to be. The ideologies that these assumptions comprise tend to be culturally specific, often functioning as myths which naturalize political and economic systems—or to be less specific—simply the way things are. These social doctrines are always philosophically grounded, and therefore can be said to transcend politics. -

AMERICAN PSYCHO by Mary Harron and Guinevere Turner
AMERICAN PSYCHO by Mary Harron and Guinevere Turner Based on the novel by Bret Easton Ellis Fourth Draft November 1998 INT. PASTELS RESTAURANT- NIGHT An insanely expensive restaurant on the Upper East Side. The decor is a mixture of chi-chi and rustic, with swagged silk curtains, handwritten menus and pale pink tablecloths decorated with arrangements of moss, twigs and hideous exotic flowers. The clientele is young, wealthy and confident, dressed in the height of late-eighties style: pouffy Lacroix dresses, slinky Alaïa, Armani power suits. CLOSE-UP on a WAITER reading out the specials. WAITER With goat cheese profiteroles and I also have an arugula Caesar salad. For entrées tonight I have a swordfish meatloaf with onion marmalade, a rare-roasted partridge breast in raspberry coulis with a sorrel timbale... Huge white porcelain plates descend on very pale pink linen table cloths. Each of the entrees is a rectangle about four inches square and look exactly alike. CLOSE-UP on various diners as we hear fragments of conversation. "Is that Charlie Sheen over there?" "Excuse me? I ordered cactus pear sorbet." WAITER And grilled free-range rabbit with herbed French fries. Our pasta tonight is a squid ravioli in a lemon grass broth... CLOSE-UP on porcelain plates containing elaborate perpendicular desserts descending on another table. PATRICK BATEMAN, TIMOTHY PRICE, CRAIG MCDERMOTT and DAVID VAN PATTEN are at a table set for four.
