Karl Walter Lindenlaub, ASC, BVK (director of photography) was born in Bremen, Germany, and raised in Hamburg. He studied at the Hochschule für Fernsehen in Munich, and continued at England’s National Film and Television School. After starting his career in Germany he moved to Los Angeles in 1990.

Lindenlaub established ongoing associations with such ﬁlmmakers as Michael Caton-Jones (“City by the Sea,” “Rob Roy,” “The Jackal”), Wayne Wang (“Maid in Manhattan,” “Because of Winn-Dixie”), Garry Marshall (“The Princess Diaries,” and “Georgia Rule”), Jon Avnet (“Red Corner,” “Up Close and Personal”) and fellow German Roland Emmerich, with whom he has collaborated seven times. His work with Emmerich includes the sci-ﬁ epics “Independence Day” and “Stargate,” as well as “Universal Soldier,” and “Moon 44”, for which he got the German camera award. Lindenlaub has worked with directors Jan de Bont (“The Haunting”), Paul Verhoeven (“Black Book”) and Bob Dolman (“The Banger Sisters”). He also shot the "Chronicles of Narnia, Prince Caspian", with Andrew Adamson directing.

His latest work includes the two Part television movie “Houdini” directed Straßburger Straße 19 by Uli Edel, for which he received an Emmy nomination.
