Immediate Impact 2008-09 Ragin’ Cajuns Leaders UL welcomed nine new players to the 2008-09 roster and a pair of newcomers have made an immediate impact for the Ragin’ Cajuns – Alexis Green and Mercedes Johnson. Heading into the week, the duo Points rank No. 1/No. 2 in points, scoring average, free throw attempts, free throws made and steals. The tandem Alexis Green 282 Mercedes Johnson 201 also rank in the Top 5 in field goals attempts, field goals made, field goal percentage, three pointers D’Mya Clay 124 attempted, three pointers made, three point field goal percentage, free throw percentage, rebounds, Jasmine Barnes 108 offensive rebounds, defensive rebounds, rebounding average, assists, blocked shots and minutes. Whitney Dunlap 86 Green Named All-Tournament Scoring Average Alexis Green 14.8 Alexis Green has been a fundamental element for the Ragin’ Cajuns women’s basketball team. Her Mercedes Johnson 11.2 efforts were rewarded as she was named to the 2008 Blazer Invitational All-Tournament Team. Green Jasmine Barnes 7.2 helped the Cajuns to a 1-1 finish in the tournament. In the Cajuns’ victory against Alabama State, she Whitney Dunlap 7.2 netted nine points to go along with a season-best 15 rebounds. Green scored the final five points of D’Mya Clay 6.2 the game to finish the come from behind victory and secure a 51-49 win. For the tournament, Green Field Goals finished with 21 points (10.5 ppg), 21 rebounds (10.5 rpg), four assists and four steals en route to All- Alexis Green 100 Tournament Team honors. The guards include Michelle Brunker (San Diego, Calif. – The Bishop’s School), Alexis Green 116 Jamie Gunter (Columbus, Miss. – Columbus High School), Becky Hall (Iowa, La. – Lacassine High D’Mya Clay 81 School), Nicole Morris (Cypress, Texas – Cy-Fair High School), and Krystal Motley. A total of 16 teams -- eight men and eight Steals women -- will qualify to travel to Hot Springs, Arkansas.
