88 NEW YORK, THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 1966 Clay Is 1A in Draft

Louisville, Feb. 17 (AP) — The draft status of champion Cassius Clay was changed today from 1-Y to 1-A, making him eligible for military service immediately. However, there was no word Bottled Up on just when Clay would be called. Local Board 47 deliberated for nearly two hours, and heard testimony from an attorney who said he represented Clay. He identified himself as Edward W Jacko Jr., New York. Jacko declined to say whether the decision will be appealed. “That hasn’t been determined,” he said. Jacko said he hasn’t deter- mined any grounds for an ap- peal. “I want to keep in confidence anything said before the board,” he said. If the decision is appealed, it would be heard by the Western Judicial Circuit Selective Serv- ice Appeal Board in Louisville. Unanimous decision by the Appeal Board is final, but the classification could be appealed to Washington on a split de- cision. Clay has a March 29 title fight scheduled in against Ernie Terrell, recognized as CASSIUS CLAY champion by the World Boxing Assn. In Chicago Ben Bentley, co- promoter of the Clay-Terrell Pimlico Results fight, commented: “We knew he was going into CLEAR & MUDDY 1-A.
