2013 WAM Song of the Year Winner, Mathas, joins Bob Evans at closing party for Van Gogh, Dalí and Beyond

Bob Evans and 2013 WAM Song of the Year Winner, Mathas, will perform on Friday 29 November at the AGWA Nights Last Hurrah! for Van Gogh, Dalí and Beyond.

Introduced in 2012, to coincide with the launch of the MoMA Series, AGWA Nights is the Gallery’s Friday night offering that brings together art, music and more. This season of AGWA Nights offered music by The West Australian Music Industry Association, the burlesque sketching antics of Dr Sketchy’s Anti Art School, comedy nights, Curator and guided tours, special guests and AGWA Talks.

Along with the musical performances by Bob Evans and Mathas, the AGWA Nights Last Hurrah! also offers one of the last chances to view the Van Gogh, Dalí and Beyond exhibition, before it closes on Monday 2 December. This exhibition has received rave reviews and Director, Stefano Carboni urges people not to miss out on viewing these masterpieces from The Museum of Modern Art, New York.

Bob Evans is the charming alter-ego and solo project of Australian recording artist Kevin Mitchell, who also fronts band Jebediah. His full-length ‘Familiar Stranger’ album, released earlier this year, marks his fourth studio release and a new chapter in the Bob Evans story. It follows on from the beloved ‘suburban’ trilogy; ‘Suburban Kid’, ‘Suburban Songbook’ and most recently, ‘Goodnight, Bull Creek!’ With a sound that breaks away from the overarching acoustic and somewhat alt-country style of previous records, the new music showcases a progressive pop sound and an artist brimming with newfound inspiration.

Bob Evans is joined by Mathas, a founding member of music and arts collective “The Community”. Mathas recently released, Nourishment featuring Abbe May. An emotionally stirring and socially conscious song investigating the link between our lack of a national food identity and treatment of the indigenous owners of Australia, it was mastered by 2013 Grammy Award-winning William Bowden (Gotye, Hermitude, Tim Finn, Jimmy Little).

The track won the Hip Hop and Electronic categories in the 2013 WAM Song Of The Year competition, as well as taking out the coveted Grand Prize. This followed up numerous 2013 WAM Award nominations, including Best Solo Act, announced a few weeks before taking out WA’s premier prize for songwriting.
