EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Jaipur also popularly known as the Pink City, is the capital and largest city of the state of . Founded on 18 November 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the ruler of Amber, the city today has a population of more than 3.9 million.

Jaipur is one of the finest planned cities of India, located in the semi- desert lands of Rajasthan. The city which once had been the capital of the royalty now is the capital city of Rajasthan. The very structure of Jaipur resembles the taste of the Rajputs and the Royal families. At present, Jaipur is a major business centre with all requisites of a metropolitan city.

The city is remarkable among pre-modern Indian cities for the width and regularity of its streets which are laid out into six sectors separated by broad streets 111 ft (34 m) wide. The urban quarters are further divided by networks of gridded streets. Five quarters wrap around the east, south, and west sides of a central palace quarter, with a sixth quarter immediately to the east.

The city‘s advantages include a prominent position on the global tourism map, flourishing handicrafts and gems & jewellery industries, as well as being a central hub for trade and commerce in the region. At the same time, the city faces multiple challenges which include good civic infrastructure.

Jaipur’s architectural planning may have been ancient, but its execution was definitely modern. Best represented by the City Palace complex, it

As in the Mughal tradition, the durbar or court areas became much more open, characterised by a series of arched pavilions held on delicately crafted pillars. Ornamentation had always been a part of the state’s architectural heritage, now it became much more opulent.

The private wings of the family also extended their entertainment areas. Since security was no longer a primary concern, larger, more ornamental windows were built to over look the streets or courtyards outside these wings. Gardens were no longer planned within the internal courtyards only, but were added to the external vistas, and water, a basic feature of Mughal palaces and gardens, was utilised in a similar fashion, in canals and fountains.

Jaipur has much to offer visitors — everything from pageants and festivals to extraordinarily clad people, a wealth of handicrafts, a royal legacy of palaces, and sightseeing — that will occupy their time. However, should the visitors simply choose to walk around the streets of the old city instead, they will not regret it. All of Jaipur is an architectural gem, and no scheduled sight seeing can even hope to do justice to this rare city.

The Pink City won its nickname for the glorious pink stucco buildings that line its wide streets. The capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur contains a plethora of impressive palaces and forts, including Amber and Jaigarh forts and City Palace and . It’s a great place to find carpets, jewelry and handicrafts or to get unusual camel leather slippers or bags

Omkareshwar Tradelinks (p) Ltd. proposes to develop a passenger ropeway from Gator Ki Chatriya to Hill Top near Gadh Ganesh temple along with other related tourism infrastructure facilities (“the Project”). The Project will provide small compact ropeway to take visitors to hill top and provide them the most magnificent view of the city of Jaipur and forest of Nahargadh Sanctuary on the other side. The project also envisages establishment of tourist amenities like public toilets to facilitate the desired comfort zone for visiting tourists.

Based on the recorded tourist data collected from Rajasthan Tourism Department, the annual tourist inflow to Jaipur is about 1502055 in 2015. An analysis of data indicates an increasing trend of tourist inflow over last five years. A copy month wise tourist data since 2001 to 2010 is enclosed at Annexure 1 to this report. However these figures do not include tourist traveling well beyond and day visitors to Jaipur. Gadh Ganesh is located at a strategic point and nestled on hill top overlooking city of Jaipur, wherein every visitor desirous of photographing the city illumination climbs on hill. The installation of a compact small ropeway to hill top will serve three distinct purposes of ferrying pilgrims to Gadh Ganesh temple, providing tourists the most magnificent platform to view the city in day as well as night.

1.3 Approach

For preparing the techno-commercial feasibility report for the project, an exhaustive discussion and survey of the region was undertaken for potential establishment of a ropeway, the ability and willingness to pay of potential users of the ropeway and the type of tourist facilities

Chapter 3 Project Concept Plan

3.1 Location of the Project

Based on the observations, the space available on the estern side of the Gatore ki Chatriya is most suitable as same lies in the state of absolute disuse and shall not affect the front view of the Chatriya. This is a part of Khasra no. 48,49,50 and 51 of revenue map.The ownership as per revenue records lies with the forest department. A small car park to cater overflow from the parking space of Chatriya shall be needed. This space after exhaustive studies has been identified as the most suitable space for establishment of Lower Terminal Point (LTP) / base station of the ropeway.

The Upper Terminal Point (UTP) is proposed to be located on left side of Gadh Ganesh Temple along the turn point of stairways as being the only space naturally available to accommodate the machinery required for UTP. This is also the part of Khasra no. 50 of revenue map.The total land of this khasra is 13.22 hectare. The ownership as per revenue records lies with the forest department.

The associated Project facilities would be located on land further left of the UTP after developing the hill top ridge and generating desired space by civil construction work.

3.2 Proposed Project Facilities

3.2.1 Ropeway at Gadh Ganesh

Currently there exists a stone stairway to reach the hill top

on which Gadh Ganesh Temple is located. Most of the people whether religious or recreational climb the hill on foot, which takes more than 35 minutes one way. There are no facilities available at hill top, in terms of dining, seating or view points to appreciate Jaipur city. The proposed ropeway firstly provides a modern, world class transportation system to ferry people up to the hill top and also bring them down. In associated project facilities, the proposed restaurant and associated development of hill ridge will provide the visitor a fine facility for relaxation, dining and vantage point for viewing the panoramic view of surrounding region. The LTP is proposed to be located at eastern side of Gatore ki Chatriya. The alignment of the ropeway runs on the gentle slope of hill and may use two trestles to maintain the desired ground clearance and cater for the sag of the rope. The UTP is proposed to be located by the left side of

7.2.1Introduction.

39

OMKARESHWAR TRADELINKS PVT.LTD A-238, Opp. Mangla Saria , Road No. 9, V.K.I. Area, Jaipur(Raj) Telefax : 0141-2332011 Mobile : 9829166432,9414007197

This system of ropeway is introduced when the capacity of the ropeway requirement is less, the span of the ropeway length is short and the project cost budget is small. Further advantages of this system are that the maintenance cost comparatively less due to the use of limited components, can be operated with minimum number of persons and land area requirement is very less.

7.2.2 Description.

The system comprises of two bull wheels of 4.0 meter or higher diameter at drive and return stations. Endless haulage ropes connect this sheaves which is moved by rotating the drive sheave. The rotation of the drive sheave is created through an electric motor, gear box, cordon shaft, coupling, pinion, bearings etc. The safe movement of the system is ensured by an electrical control panel and breaks of disc, electromagnetic or hydraulic types. The rope on the line is supported with the help of steel towers, mounts, mount sheaves etc. the haulage rope is kept in the required tension by the help of a tensioning system.

7.2.3 System Components

a) Carriers

The carrier in respect of Fixed Grip gondola is 6 - 8 seat fibre glass cabins with the hanger and the grips which is made out of

40

OMKARESHWAR TRADELINKS PVT.LTD A-238, Opp. Mangla Saria , Road No. 9, V.K.I. Area, Jaipur(Raj) Telefax : 0141-2332011 Mobile : 9829166432,9414007197

special grade carbon steel and remain griped with the hauling rope.

b) Haulage Rope

The haulage rope for the Fixed Grip pulse Gondola system is supported on the towers with the help of steel mounts and rubber lined sheaves. The rope will have its tension by a hydraulic tensioning device.

c) Drive Assembly The drive assembly of the Fixed Grip Pulse Gondola system consists of horizontal bull wheel with antifriction bearings, the main support frame, and the drive components with their support structures, i.e. reduction gearbox, cordon shaft, flexible coupling, disc brake, electromagnetic service brake and hydraulic emergency brake. For a standby drive, the system also includes a diesel engine, fluid coupling, gear box, and a driving sprocket, which drives the bull-wheel via a pinion.

d) Terminal Systems At the terminals, platforms are provided for the safe boarding and de-boarding for the passengers before the reversal takes place.

41

OMKARESHWAR TRADELINKS PVT.LTD A-238, Opp. Mangla Saria , Road No. 9, V.K.I. Area, Jaipur(Raj) Telefax : 0141-2332011 Mobile : 9829166432,9414007197

e) Line Equipment The towers of the Pulse gondola system, are designed utilizing upright as well as the tower head, rope mount , haulage rope sheave frames and sheaves, rope lifting frames, ladders, as well as platform, plus standard safety equipments. The tower will be provided with lightening arrestors and earthling systems to safe guard against the lightening effects.

7.3 Operating Limitations All aerial ropeways systems have certain operating limitations. Generally, a prudent operator will restrict or cancel operations during high winds and electrical storms. A wind monitoring logic with the operating system ensures the regulation of drive speed which causes the termination of the system beyond the acceptable limit of the wind speed. Operations can usually be conducted in wind speeds of upto 50 kmph. When wind speeds increase, the speed of the system is reduced, and if winds continue to increase, the operation must be suspended until wind subsides. 7.4 Rescue / Evacuations Considerations Modern ropeway systems are very reliable and the possibility that an evacuation will be required is very remote. In order to minimize the possibility that an evacuation will be required, certain features should be provided, including a back-up diesel power unit which can move the system in the event of a loss of power or failure of the main drive system. As a further measure, a ring gear drive mounted directly to the bull wheel should be provided in the event the main gearbox fails. With these provisions, the possibility that

the cabins become stranded mid-span is very remote. As the perceived tower height has been chosen low, a manual rescue system, which enables lowering of stranded passengers by ladder, will suffice for this ropeway.

7.5 Safety Considerations

The safety systems and factors to be considered while designing the ropeway systems are as set out below: Rope safety factor 5 Braking system 3 - electro-magnetic/ disc brake type required - acting directly on driving shaft - acting upon transmission gear shaft Monitoring system Over speed protection, cable control at stations Cabin door closed Automatic signalling to start ropeway indicator Height above ground Generally low level to enable manual rescue System for evacuation of Manual aerial line Stand-by diesel electric Yes generator

tourists desirous visiting the temple and spending time atop the hills overlooking the township of Jaipur, converting the project in to a commercially successful venture besides giving an enormous change to the direct economical boost to the region.

As the location of the project is within the wild life sanctuary and the existing pathway is well between and from the forest area it is likely that some human damage to the habitat overtly or covertly by the pilgrims may be caused. The proposed project would help in mitigating the human damages to the habitat as large number of them would prefer aerial route on one side and on other it would be easier for forest people in managing the sanctuary easily. An Eco surcharge can also be imposed on ropeway tickets to be chargeable from the tourist which would be a source of income for forest department and the funds generated can be used for the purposes of development of the area.

The development of the site would also promote the concept of Eco – Tourism.

For installing the ropeway permission is needed to be sought from state wild life board and as the diversion is lesser than 0.5 hectares it is very much lies under their jurisdiction.
