Securing the Future for St. Mary’s & Christ Church Our Project

In early 2020, Wanstead Parish secured a heritage grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to help us become more resilient and adaptable. A group of parish and community members representing both churches have been working together for 9 months to develop a brief. Our ambition is to serve our communities better, make both buildings and their green spaces more accessible, reduce our carbon footprint, and become more resilient to future changes. We have been working with a professional team who have developed a number of options for us. Our criteria have been: 1) Heritage: removing the buildings from the Buildings at Risk Register 2) Environmental: maximising environmental benefits and impacts 3) Inclusion: ensuring the parish serves our communities 4) Finance: the option to be affordable and sustainable. Notes In early 2020, Wanstead Parish secured a heritage grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to help us become more resilient and adaptable. A group of parish and community members representing both churches have been working together for 9 months to develop a brief. Our ambition is to serve our communities better, make both buildings and their green spaces more accessible, reduce our carbon footprint, and become more resilient to future changes. We have worked with Alix Slater Consultancy and Dow Jones Architects who have developed number of options for us. Our criteria have been: 1) Heritage: removing the buildings from the Buildings at Risk Register 2) Environmental: maximising environmental benefits and impacts 3) Inclusion: ensuring the parish serves our communitiesNotes 4) Finance: the option to be affordable and sustainable.
