Our Lady of the

Annual Report July 1, 2018 - June 30, 2019 2 Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish

2532 Vermont NE Albuquerque, New Mexico 87110 505-298-7553

Dear Friends,

Greetings in the Lord Christ!

As has been my practice, I write to you, the faith family of Annunciation Parish, shortly after the close of the fiscal year to share with you how we make use of your generosity. Each week the parish bulletin reflects our progress as we journey through the year. There- fore, it is no surprise how well you respond to the challenge of the Psalm 116.12 “How shall I make a return to the Lord for all the good he has done for me?” Well indeed! Your faithfulness supports the ministries and programs offered here to encourage your growth in the faith. Each Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, Marriage or Funeral stands as witness to your commitment to knowing and growing in the Lord, from formation classes to lending a caring ear at a bereavement meal. Your weekly participation in our Liturgy allows us to re-connect, refresh and renew our place in our family of faith, fed at the table of the Lord. All of this is possible because of your continued willingness to share your time, talent, and treasure.

Throughout this report you will see how your support makes our service as a parish possi- ble. Beyond the numbers lies the wonder of all that can be accomplished together. I invite you to read this report with both your mind’s eye and the eye of your heart. We are not an insular family; we reach out by helping other parishes, Catholic Charities, Casa Angelica and many more in your name. Your dedication to the broader Church speaks volumes of your love for God and neighbor. This past year has seen the completion of many needed projects as well as the replacement of the parking lot of St. Bakhita Hall; the removal of landscaping past its life, replanting new shrubs in the hope of new life, aiding in both the upkeep of our facilities as well as presenting a welcoming face to our neighbors. As all families know, simply “keeping the lights on” remains costly. We also resurfaced the lot we lease from our good neighbor with landscape crusher fine gravel, adding to your ease of parking.

I thank you for your response to the needs of our parish, one another and those we have the privilege to assist beyond our boundaries. Asking God to continue to bless you always, I remain

Yours in Christ,

Msgr. Bennett J. Voorhies Pastor

11 12 The (Canticle of Mary)

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my Savior; for He has looked with favor on his lowly servant.

From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his Name.

He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation.

He has shown the strength of his arm, He has scattered the proud in their conceit.

He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of his servant Israel for He has remembered his promise of mercy, the promise He made to our fathers to Abraham and his children for ever.

Luke 1:46-55 (Magnificat)

18 On your behalf and by your generosity, our St. Vincent de Paul Society is able to help those who find it difficult to make ends meet on an emergency basis. This year you provided in the St. Vincent de Paul envelopes $98,997.34.

Our Community of Faith continues to grow: for this we give special thanks to God for the blessing of these new parishioners who, along with those already a part of our family of faith, make up the single greatest resource we enjoy.

This year 170 families joined our parish, bringing our registered parish families to over 2,400, of whom 1,329 are envelope users.

This past year we faced many challenges together and by the Grace of God we were able to respond to the needs of others outside our parish boundaries. These free will gifts added to our regular support for rural parishes totaled $194,179.02 (Archdiocese Special Collections, Parish Special Collections, Donations to Other Parishes). As we strive to be a parish that gives from our table not from our leftovers, it is your willingness to help that allows us to do so. Thank you!

Campaign Goal Pledge Actual Campaign 2018 (January-December 2018) 12 months $155,000.00 $263,212.30 $256,757.30 Campaign 2019 (January-June 2019) 6 months $156,000.00 $208,504.99 $159,991.99 We are blessed as a parish with very strong commitment to the ACA. Each year every parish is assigned a goal of funds which need to be raised for the support of Archdiocesan Ministries. Revenue received above our goal is returned to the parish in the form of a rebate. This program has allowed our parish many opportunities to designate and complete capital improvement projects at the parish level. The ACA is operated on an annual basis, January 1-December 31, while our ordinary budget cycle is a fiscal one, July 1-June 30. While we count on the proceeds from the ACA, we encourage all members to participate. There is still time. Each month, we report to you our progress as the Appeal moves from goal to rebate by your goodness. Completion of any campaign appeal comes at mid year of our budget cycle and, unlike our ordinary revenue from the Sunday collection, proceeds from the rebate are tax free for use in the parish. Your ongoing help is needed in the number of families participating in the ACA. Presently only seventeen percent (17%) of our parish family contributes to this worthy outreach. Thank you for considering your role in supporting the work of our Archdiocese. May we always be comforted by the words: Jesus, change my heart!

20 Prayer for Generous Hearts

Loving God, you taught us from of old that our hearts cannot be filled with the things of this world.

Give us generous hearts, so that we may release our hold on things of this world and share what you have given us with those who are in need of our help.

We ask for your abundant Spirit to come over us and all the world.

We make our prayer through Jesus Christ, our Lord and brother.

Amen.

Please remember us in your Estate Planning. Our legal name is Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church or Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic School. Many thanks! A separately Incorporated Entity

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your in- tercession, was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to you I come, before you I stand, sin- ful and sorrowful; O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen
