Roosevelt was first elected president a group of reporters sang "Home on the Range" on his doorstep in New York City. He asked them to repeat it, and made the statement, so it was said, that it was his favorite song. Later he often listened to the ballad at the White House, and it was reported that at Warm Springs he frequently led his guests in singing it. Stories of the President's approval soon made "Home on the Range" one of the country's hit songs. By 1934 it had moved to the top on the ra­ dio, where it stayed for six months.
