Our partner, the Shenandoah Valley Inclusive Wellness Coalition, offers scholarships to improve wellness for individuals with disabilities across the Shenandoah Valley. Grant funds provide a small amount of funding to allow individuals with a financial need to cover costs to enroll and/or engage in wellness opportunities (e.g. physical activity, sport, fitness, yoga, etc.). These funds are intended to allow participants to try out a program he or she has never been able to pursue due to financial limitations. Start Smart Sports Development The Start Smart Move and Play program is the most recently developed program by the National Alliance for Youth Sports. This program is a developmentally appropriate introductory sports program that prepares children and their parents for organized sports in a fun, non-threatening environment. Sports skills developed in this program are primarily throwing, catching, batting, and kicking. Parks and Recreation Seeks Community Input on Purcell Park Master Plan

Are you interested in participating in the redesign of a Harrisonburg Park? Are there new park amenities you would like to see or are you passionate about preserving and updating existing park features for the safety of park users? Harrisonburg Parks and Recreation will be inviting the community to assist with reimagining and redesigning the whole of Purcell Park!

The department has hired a consultant firm to provide assistance with developing a Master Plan for Purcell Park.
