‘DOLLY CELEBRATES 25 YEARS OF DOLLYWOOD’ TALENT BIOS DOLLY PARTON - "I've always been a writer. My songs are the door to every dream I've ever had and every success I've ever achieved," says Dolly Parton of her incredible career, which has spanned nearly five decades and is showing no signs of slowing down. An internationally renowned superstar, the iconic and irrepressible Parton has contributed countless treasures to the world of music entertainment, penning classic songs such as "Jolene," "Coat of Many Colors," and her mega-hit "I Will Always Love You." With 1977's crossover hit "Here You Come Again," she successfully erased the line between country and pop music without noticeably altering either her music or her image. "I'm not leaving country," she said at the time, "I'm just taking it with me." Making her film debut in the 1980 hit comedy “9 to 5,” Parton earned rave reviews for her performance and an Oscar nomination for writing the title tune, along with her second and third Grammy Awards. Roles in “Steel Magnolias,” “Best Little Whorehouse in Texas,” “Rhinestone,” and “Straight Talk” followed, along with two network television series, made for television movies, network and HBO specials, and guest-starring roles in series television. In 2006, Parton earned her second Oscar nomination for "Travelin' Thru," which she wrote for the film “Transamerica.” Dolly Parton's remarkable life began very humbly. Born January 19, 1946 on a farm in Sevier County, Tennessee, Parton is the fourth of twelve children. Her parents, Robert Lee and Avie Lee Parton struggled to make ends meet in the impoverished East Tennessee hills.

STAND BY YOUR MAN, REDNECK WOMAN: TOWARDS A HISTORICAL VIEW OF COUNTRY MUSIC GENDER ROLES by CENATE PRUITT Under the Direction of Wendy S. Simonds ABSTRACT Country music, considered a uniquely American musical genre, has been relatively under-researched compared to rock and rap music. This thesis proposes research into the topic of country music, specifically the ways which country music songs portray gender. The thesis uses Billboard chart data to determine commercially successful songs, and performs a content analysis on the lyrics of these songs. I will select songs from a fifty year period ranging from 1955 to 2005, so as to allow for a longitudinal study of potential changes in

west coast music Cowling Band Please find the attached Cowling Band song list for your review. SPECIAL DANCES for Weddings: Please note that we will need to have your special dance requests, (I.E. First Dance, F/D Dance, etc) FOUR WEEKS in advance prior to your event so that we can confirm the band will be able to perform the songs and will be able to locate sheet music and audio samples of the songs. If some cases where sheet music is not available or an arrangement for the full band is needed, this gives us time to properly prepare the music. Clients are not obligated to send in a list of general song requests. Many of our clients ask that the band just react to whatever their guests are responding to on the dance floor. Our clients that do provide us with song requests do so in varying degrees. Most clients give us a handful of songs they want played and avoided. If you desire the highest degree of control (allowing the band to only play within the margin of songs requested), then we would ask for a minimum 80 requests from the band’s songlist. Please feel free to call us at the office should you have any questions. – West Coast Music DANCE SONGS: 24K Magic ......................................... • Rock Album Discography Last Up-Date: September 27Th, 2021
Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.

  • “Coat of Many Colors”—Dolly Parton (1971) Added to the National Registry: 2011 Essay by Cary O’Dell
“Coat of Many Colors”—Dolly Parton (1971) Added to the National Registry: 2011 Essay by Cary O’Dell Original album Dolly Parton “Love, Sex, Murder” is a compilation of some of Johnny Cash’s best and most resonating recordings; it was released in 2000. If those three words ably sum up much of the Man in Black’s repertoire as a singer and songwriter, then his fellow country legend, Dolly Parton, can just as aptly be condensed into “Love, Sex, God.” Certainly it is the first and last of those trio of words that are fully covered in Parton’s legendary song “Coat of Many Colors,” a song that was added to the National Recording Registry in 2011. Believe it or not, there was a time when Parton was not valued as a songwriter. Instead, in the very early part of her career, as an appendage to Porter Wagoner, Parton was better known for her crystalline voice, voluptuous hair and even more voluptuous figure. Despite the success she enjoyed as a vocalist and a songwriter (with a couple of early self-penned hits like “Put It Off Until Tomorrow” and “Fuel to the Flame,” both co-written with Parton’s uncle Bill Owens), it would not be until the breakthrough of her “Just Because I’m a Woman” in 1968 and “Joshua” in 1971, that audiences and the industry alike realized what a gifted musician and lyricist Parton truly was. But even those successes were just prologue, a build-up of sorts, to one of Parton’s crowning and career-defining achievements, her heartfelt 1971 hit “Coat of Many Colors.” In the song’s five verses, Parton spins a full story/fable that touches on issues long since abandoned by “country” music—religion, poverty, childhood, and family.

  • Readingis My Superpower!
Reading is My Superpower! Have you ever heard of Dolly Parton? Dolly Parton is a famous country singer, writer, movie star, and most importantly, a READER! This week, let’s look at how Dolly Parton transformed her own life through reading. Dolly Parton’s Early Life Photo taken from Imagination Library Dolly Parton was born in Locust Ridge, Tennessee on January 19, 1946. She grew up in a very poor family in the middle of the Smokey Mountains. In her family there were 12 kids. Dolly’s dad worked on farms in the area, and her mother spent a lot of time singing and playing guitar. Her parents were hard workers who provided their kids with what they could, including the great love for music. Church was important to the family, and Dolly learned a lot about music by singing at her local church. When she was a little girl, she started writing her own songs. A relative gave Dolly her first guitar, and she officially became a songwriter. Dolly started performing at the age of ten. Everyone loved the spirited young girl with country voice, so she became a local favorite on tv and radio shows around Knoxville. When she was only 13, she debuted at the Grand Ole Opry. When she graduated high school, Dolly moved to Nashville to start her musical career. Dolly has credited her loving mother for always supplying love to her twelve children, as well as the desire to sing, read and write. Dolly has also told the story about her dad being so proud of his daughter that every week he would go to the statue of Dolly in her hometown and scrub all the pigeon poop off to keep it nice and clean.
