The Totty Cup & Barlow-Salmons Shield 2015

Kilnhurst v Rosehill Carrfield v Lacewood The Totty Cup was originally donated by a Goldthorpe Cinema manger, Mr. Totty, in 1926. Originally it was a “senior school” competition but is now a primary school competition. The Don & Dearne Sports Association ran this compe- tition as well as a representative team for many years. Two of the players from the 1960’s (Frank Barlow & Geoff Salmons) donated a trophy for those schools knocked out in the early rounds – this is known as the Barlow-Salmons Shield (introduced 1974).

Our Sponsors in 2015 are Protege Events, who run competitions from grass roots to professional and manage a number of professional Darts players.

“We intend to collate a number of young football stars, creating a formidable team of youngsters from differ- ent areas of the UK - as indeed we do in Darts. We will showcase and promote the players through our web- site, social media and contacts in sport; work with them, assisting in providing equipment and providing advice. Finally, we hope to find professional clubs to sign the Team Protege stars and launch their careers." Programme of Events 3.15pm - Barlow-Salmons Final 4.15pm* - Totty Cup Final Presentations will be on top of the hill! * The Totty Cup could be delayed if the Barlow- Salmons goes to Extra Time.

Kilnhurst - Totty Cup Winners 2007 The Story of Jorge Robledo

It is said that Jorge played in the Totty Cup Final, the Montagu Cup Final, the FA Cup Final and the World Cup Finals. Jorge is front centre of the photograph of the success- ful Brampton Ellis team of 1939. Their trophies in- cluded the English Schools Cup. Born in Chile in 1926, he emigrated to with his family to Brampton in 1932. After school he worked as a miner before Barnsley signed him and his brother, Ted. After 3 seasons and 45 goals for Barnsley, Newcastle United were only interested in signing Jorge, but he re- fused to move without his brother. At Newcastle, Jorge became the first foreign player to be top score in . He was the Sergio Aguero of his day! Chile recruited Robledo for their 1950 World Cup Finals, even though he spoke no Spanish. He played against England and scored in a 5-2 victory against USA. He managed to score New- castle’s winning goal at an the 1952 FA Cup Final against Arsenal. This moment was sketched by an 11 year old John Lennon, which then appeared on his 1974 album cover, Walls & Bridg- es. Ted went back to Chile to play for Colo-Colo in 1953, and he was soon followed by Jorge. He spent the rest of his days in Chile, retiring in 1961 and passing away in 1989. Sadly, his brother died in mysterious circumstances in 1970, aged 42. He fell from an oil tanker into the sea off Dubai—his body has never been found. The Finals in Numbers

Please remain at one side of the pitch, behind the Respect barriers. The other side of the pitch is for the coaches and substitutes. There should be no spectators immediately behind or near the goal (even the keeper’s dad!). We strive for school football to be played in a sporting spirit without the urgency to win at all cost. Please keep your comments positive.

Extra Time If the teams are level at the end of normal time then 10 minutes of Extra Time will be played. If they are still level, there will be a 2nd period of Extra-Time. If they are still level, the match will be replayed.
