President Campus Activities Doris Chan  Class Photos were taken throughout October. Hard or soft copies will be distributed to students shortly. Chinese School Committee  Academic Contests took place at all three campuses. Winners will be announced in January. Co-Chairs  To celebrate the festive season, we held Christmas Celebrations at the Richmond Hill and Frank Chau Ying Duong Markham campuses on December 16, 2017 and at the North York campus on December 22, 2017. Santa Claus was on hand to distribute gifts to the students. Chinese School Committee  Interim Progress Reports will be issued on January 19 or January 20, 2018. Parents are Members encouraged to input comments in the space provided on the report card before returning it to the class teacher. Parents Doris Chan may also make special arrangements to meet with the teacher. Jo-Cy Lee  Chinese New Year Celebrations will take place at the three campuses on the following dates: Markham Andy Lam Christopher Ho and Richmond Hill – February 24, 2018 and North York on February 23, 2018 Willis Or  Speech Arts Contests: Richmond Hill and Markham – April 14, 2018, and North Bennett Sun York – April 13, 2018. Chief Operating Officer Dear Parents, Eumie Leung Happy New Year! I am Yingxin Sun, the Mon Sheong Foundation Chinese School Director. We appreciate that you believe studying Chinese is important for our children. Chinese School Director To better help our children, I have some suggestions below for you: Yingxin Sun 1. Create a better learning environment: Play Chinese children songs and story tell while driving.

Markham Campus 2. Interact with your children: Dedicate time each week to read a Chinese story, and role-play the characters in the story. Principal This increases your child(ren)’s affection for you while learning Chinese. Yin Yu 3. Let them practice the language: Bring your children to Chinese restaurants and supermarkets, encourage them to recognize Chinese characters and speak to them in Chinese. North York Campus 4. Recognize that Pinyin is not magic: It is a myth that children benefit from Pinyin or use phonetic symbols to study Principal Fung Shan Chan Chinese. The fact is that one syllable has four or more tones and many words can be formed by adding a tone. It is very difficult to learn without knowing the Chinese characters. The Pinyin benefits adults beginning the Chinese language, Richmond Hill Campus helps intermediate students improve their tone, and also helps them increase their vocabulary. The ability to recognize Principal and understand Chinese characters is the fundamental principle during the enlightenment stage. Email:  A new 2018 Chinese Immersion Summer Camp is coming. It will be increased from five weeks to six weeks with applied [email protected] language practice in addition to the traditional Chinese immersion approach. Regular Chinese language training for the first four weeks will include reading, music, arts, and crafts, physical education, Pinyin typing and mathematics topics. Facebook: The program concludes with applied language training for the last two weeks. The combination of Chinese language Facebook.com/MonSheongCS training with application practice will rapidly increase the learning experience.  A full Chinese language environment has been created for your children to enjoy learning Cantonese and Mandarin.

行政總裁親愛的家長們：黃何潔儀新年好！我是中文學校校監孫穎新，很感謝你們堅持讓孩子學中文！

很多家長詢問可以如何幫助自己的孩子提高中文水平，以下幾點與家長分享，希望能有所幫助：營運總監何梁遠明 1. 創設語境：利用空餘時間，創設學中文的機會，如駕車時播放中文兒歌、故事、、、 2. 親子互動：每個星期確定一個固定時間，讓家長與孩子共同聼讀一個中文故事，或進行角色模仿遊戲中文學校總監等，既增加感情又學習了中文。孫穎新 3. 語言實踐：帶孩子上餐館、到華人超市，鼓勵孩子認、說中文。 4. 拼音不是萬能的：家長誤解了讓孩子借助拼音或音標閱讀課文就是學會了中文，這其實是假象。一個音萬錦分校校長節有四個或以上音調，加上一個音下面有很多字，離開字形的認知，是學不好中文的。拼音對成人漢语尹玉入門有它的益處，對兒童中後期漢语學習也有擴大詞滙數量和正音的作用；但在啓蒙階段識字、認字才
