RECENT ACTIONS BY THE POLICE COMMISSION

September 1 Police Commissioner Alan Skobin attended the Citizen’s Academy in Valley Bureau. He praised the organizers for reaching out to all corners of the Valley. Commissioner Skobin stated portions of the10 week program were covered and televised by reporters from channels 2 and 9.

September 8 The Commission received a verbal presentation from Deputy Chief Charlie Beck on the status of DNA backlog. Chief Beck informed the Commission that as of last week the current backlog of untested kits was 3,266, which represents a 57% reduction from 7500 untested kits from a year ago. Scientific Investigation Division will hire 16 more Crimi- nalist this year and it is anticipated DNA backlog should be completely eliminated by 2011.

September 15 The Commission approved the Northeast Area Gang Enforcement Detail Command Accountability Performance Audit. Three of the five objectives were met with a compli- ance rate of 95% or better. The two objectives not met were in the area of arrest reports and criminal complaint process. Captain Murphy met with the auditing staff to discuss the findings and then met with his supervisors to ensure training of each officer.

September 23 The Commission named Police Officer II, Police Commission Employee of the Month for September 2009. Officer Garcia is a Veteran from military services and is an out- standing employee Commission Investigation Division.

September 29 The Commission received a status report from Deputy Chief Charlie Beck and Chief in- formation Officer Tim Riley on the In Car Video Project. The first set of cameras, which will be for the Southeast Senior Lead Officers, will be live on October 20th. By the end of the year, the entire South Bureau fleet of patrol cars will be functioning with cameras.
