Shannons Sports & Muscle Car Showdown Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th June 2009

WITH A TRIBUTE TO TRANS-AM RACING

DON’T MISS SEEING PETE GEOGHEGAN’S ORIGINAL ‘65 MUSTANG

If your pride and joy, your passion, has wheels and horsepower BRING IT OUT TO PLAY. Cocoons & Cotton balls are not what it was built for. Get the real value from your investment and use it the way it was built to be used once in a while. Shannons have made it easy and safe for you to do just that in front of thousands of people.

You will not put your car at risk. If half the roads were as safe as Queensland Raceway Ipswich (QRI) it would halve the road toll. Your car was meant to be driven and you owe it to the people who designed it, and built it, IN THE FIRST PLACE, to show it off – safely.

The Sports and Muscle-car Showdown brings all Sports and Muscle Car enthusiasts a menu of activities. Here the ragged edge racers can run on the limit, EVERYONE CAN do regularity time trials and show‘n’shiners don’t just sit there – they QRuise. This whole weekend is about your fantasy machine doing what you want it to do at the speed that you want TO DO.

Events for everyone from push-hard to parade!

You will get to put your car on the track at least six times over the weekend and see a whole bunch of historically significant cars in the paddock and on the track to quicken the pulse and excite your ears.

There are some very special cars on the track

Everyone can run their exotic and classic sports cars in 2009! We have several coming already so get along to QRI and share the passion.

If you want good food, conversation and interesting speakers DO NOT MISS the Shannons Sports & Muscle Car Gala Dinner at the 5 Star Ipswich International. We’ve booked the entire ballroom on Saturday 27th June but it only seats 200 – so book early or you might miss out on this special occasion.

Jim Richards and Mayor Paul Pisasale will be the guest speakers.

There are special accommodation packages for entrants. You can stay for 1, 2 or 3 nights – check the enclosed flyer for more details.

These races are being described as a tribute to Trans-am we are is not trying to emulate the exact formula applied in this period. However the spirit of this tribute is to create a spectacle honouring the muscle cars of the Trans-Am period that existed between 1966 and 1972 in the USA.

These races are designed to be a spectacle and the safety and preservation of the drivers and the cars is of the utmost importance..We envisage around 20 entrants in the 5 Trans-Am races over 2days, and expect to see all 20 cars and drivers finish the event in one piece. There will be trophies (wood or plastic) so when in doubt back off! . There will be several cars with over 500HP.( There is no prize money)

We will use rolling starts for all races with a orange 1970 302 Boss Mustang pace car..The Boss pace car will also be deployed for yellow flag periods. This will be discussed in detail at the drivers briefing on the Saturday.

Some of the entrants have already confirmed they will have their grid girls on the start line before each race to add to the spectacle.!

It been a long time since we have seen a big field of Camaros Mustangs Galaxies & Pontiacs on the same grid, in a race in Australia. We also hope to see some representation from a few other Marques like Dodge and AMC.

Jim Richards will also run his 1964 Falcon Sprint....& With the 3 classes we hope to see some good battles at the front and rear of the field.

Don’t forget the Sports & Muscle car dinner at the Metro hotel 4.5 star boutique hotel in Ipswich. Many of us are staying there on the Sat night. Jim Richards is the Guest speaker.(Plus good food and entertainment)

See the Special dinner and accommodation package available with the entry form..

The entry forms will be available from Qld raceway and shannons web site in Feb.09
