Estonia hosts the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships for the first time, but has hosted the ISU European Figure Skating Championships in 2010. 163 skaters from 42 ISU members have been entered for the Championships. Following a decision of the ISU congress in summer 2012, no preliminary rounds are skated, but participants need to have achieved a total element minimum score for both Short and Free Program. All skaters compete in the Short Program/Short Dance and the top 24 single skaters, top 16 Pairs and top 20 Ice Dance teams proceed to the Free Skating/Free Dance. Overview of the top contenders Competition in the Men’s event will be tight with the participants of the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final and returning medalists. ISU Junior Grand Prix Final Champion Shoma Uno (JPN) travels with a seasons best of 256.45 points, achieved at the ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships, to Tallinn. Competition should come from ISU Junior Grand Prix Final silver medalist Sota Yamamoto (JPN/seasons best 213.12 points) and ISU Junior Grand Prix Final bronze medalist Alexander Petrov (RUS/seasons best 231.53 points).

Platz beim Deutschland-Pokal In der Dortmunder Westfalenhalle war die Weltmeisterschaft im Eiskunstlaufen ge- rade zuende, da wurde am 3./4. April noch zum Abschluss der diesjährigen Eislauf- saison in Dortmund (quasi in der „Haupt- stadt des deutschen Eislaufsports“) auch noch der „Deutschland-Pokal“ der Deut- schen Eislauf-Union (DEU) ausgetragen. Im Fußball gibt es den Deutschen Meister und den Pokal-Sieger, so auch im Eis- sport. Mit dabei, die NRW-Eistanz-Hoff- nungsträger: Die amtierenden Deutschen- Nachwuchs-Meister Saskia Brall (ERG Iserlohn) und Tim Giesen (Neusser Schlitt- schuh-Klub). Die beiden waren im letzten Dezember ja gerade erst deutsche Nach- wuchs-Meister geworden, hatten vor 3 Wochen noch zur Vorbereitung beim Isar-Pokal in München alle deutschen Konkurren- ten mit großem Abstand hinter sich gelassen und wollten in Dortmund antreten, um das „Double“ zu schaffen - die Deutsche Meisterschaft & den Deutschland-Pokal im glei- chen Jahr. Doch es kam leider alles anders: Um 11:00 Uhr am Samstag startete der Eistanz-Wettbewerb mit dem ersten Pflichttanz, einem sog. „Vierzehner“. Saskia Brall und Tim Giesen mussten schon als Dritte aufs Eis, ihre größten derzeitigen Konkurrenten, Stefanie Schneider und Thomas Maier aus Chemnitz, hatten mit dem fünften Startplatz die bessere Startreihenfolge gelost – so dass einige Minuten knisternde Spannung in der Eishalle herrschte, bis das Ergebnis fest stand. Am Ende dieses ersten Wettkampfteils hatten die Preisrichter aus 7 unterschiedlichen Bundesländern mit einer 7:0-Entscheidung Saskia Brall und Tim Giesen klar auf Platz 1 gesetzt.
