he quest to provide quality educa- tion for pre-primary school pupils in Kilifi County has always been a key driver in improving education standards in the region. Since devolution was actualized, the Coun- Tty Government of Kilifi has made it a priority to develop infrastructure for its Early Childhood learners and build a strong ECDE through a modern curriculum for its ECDE pupils. There were very few nurs­ery classrooms hence the county had to start from scratch. This is one of the sectors that had been for- gotten by successive national governments. There were 79,789 nursery school going children­ in Kil- ifi County who lacked access to proper learning amenities in 2012. The county had to start from scratch building new classes to improve access and retention and creating a conducive learning en­vironment for the children of Kilifi. In total 2285 classes needed to be built by the county government to sustain the huge population of nursery school going chil- dren. Despite the challenges that the county educa- tion sector has faced, there has been a sharp con- trast from what the county government found in 2013 and now.
