It is also a hub for agri-based industry and other industrial activities. The oldest UNILEVER plant is located in RYK. The rulers of Abu Dhabi have a presence in RYK, with interests in hunting. They have set up a palace, school and contribute somewhat to the economy. It is connected with the rest of the country through good roads, railway and air. The total population of Rahim Yar Khan district is approximately 3.3 million (2007). Its largest minority group is Hindus. RYK is associated with the exploitative supply of the ‘camel jockey kids’, and more recently their return and rehabilitation.. The total area of the district is 11,880 square kilometers. The district comprises of four Tehsils namely, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, Liaquatpur and Khanpur. There are 122 Union Councils in the district, three municipal committees and five town committees. District Rahim Yar Khan - Gender Equality vs. Equity - the case of education provision and enrolment! Table a: Institutional Provision Girls and Boys at Primary-Middle Levels Institutions Enrollment Level Boys Girls Mixed Total Male Female Total Pre-Primary /Primary* 722 556 2097 3,375 243,877 166,951 410,828 Middle 122 113 81 316 31,822 21,020 52,842 Table b: Enrolment of Girls and Boys at Primary- Middle Levels Institutions Enrollment Level Boys Girls Mixed Male Female Pre-Primary /Primary* 21% 16% 62% 59% 41% Middle 39% 36% 26% 60% 40% The data in tables (a) and (b) above highlights a very important issue regarding provision of education with respect to gender. Whilst the institutional provision at primary level (katchi to Grade 5) is almost equal in Rahim Yar Khan district the enrolment of girls is 18% less than boys The data is however, more stark and illustrative at the middle level (Grades VI-VIII), where the provision for girls’ institutions is higher than boys but enrolment is much lower at 40% for girls and 60% for boys. Thus, on the one hand, gender equality in provision is available, but gender equity is not which is based on: addressing issues such as, distance and security of travel to the school, security within the school, quality of education with respect to teacher provision, conducive learning environment with adequate facilities, positive attitudes and of course poverty. Another important point to consider from the data is that there are only 13% enrolled girls in middle schools when compared to their enrolment at the primary level! This also reinforces the transition gaps from primary to middle level of education, which in turn is a disincentive for many households who do not see a future for girls’ education or for that matter of boys as primary graduates! This is a critical policy and planning issue that needs to be addressed urgently Baseline Assessment Study Report - District Rahim Yar Khan Page 4 of 26 Target project schools have been selected from 13 Union Council (UCs), out of 122 UCs. Nine schools in need of urgent support have been identified for Whole School Improvement Program (WSIP) to be provided both, infrastructure and soft interventions of construction, learning materials, strengthening of school councils and capacity building. There are 37 schools additionally selected in clusters for capacity building, community participation and health/hygiene support to mobilize maximum number of girls for primary enrolment. WSIP Sr.# Category of School Cluster School Total Schools 1 Primary Schools (P/S) 8 11 19 2 Elementary Schools (E/S) - 18 18 3 High Schools (H/S) 1 8 9 9 36 46 Enrolment in 9 WSIP schools is 1162, with 96% girls. The number of teachers is 29. Enrolment in 9 target schools will be increased during the project period by 15-20% (1340 -1400) at primary. In the 37 cluster schools, there are 93% girls. Enrolment is targeted to increase by at least 10% (from 6109 to 7200) during the project period in primary grades. Learning level baselines conducted for grades 1-5 of 9 WSIP schools for 3 toughest subjects: English, Maths and Science revealed following results: English Mathematics Science Average 42 46 34 40 The average students’ learning levels is 40 % which is above the 33% government pass rate. This is better than other districts of the project. There is a need to achieve 50% as an average, to ensure a better chance of sustaining the learning edge. Learning environment and basic facilities need improvement for improved learning outcomes. The average PTR of 9 target schools is 1:40, equal to the government ratio of 1:40. Only. There are 2 schools where the PTR is above 1:40. The School Councils are present, but weak. Classrooms observations reveal on a scale of 1-5, an average of 2 in classroom environment, measured across 12 indicators. Geospatial Analysis of Indus River Meandering and Flow Pattern from Chachran to Guddu Barrage, Pakistan Vol 9 (2), December 2018 Open Access ORIGINAL ARTICLE Full Length Ar t icle Geospatial Analysis of Indus River Meandering and Flow Pattern from Chachran to Guddu Barrage, Pakistan Danish Raza* and Aqeel Ahmed Kidwai Department of Meteorology-COMSATS University Islamabad, Islamabad, Pakistan ABS TRACT Natural and anthropogenic influence affects directly ecologic equilibrium and hydro morphologic symmetry of riverine surroundings. The current research intends to study the hydro morphologic features (meanders, shape, and size) of Indus River, Pakistan by using remote sensing (RS) and geographical information science (GIS) techniques to calculate the temporal changes. Landsat satellite imagery was used for qualitative and analytical study. Satellite imagery was acquired from Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM), Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) and Operational Land Imager (OLI). Temporal satellite imagery of study area was used to identify the variations of river morphology for the years 1988,1995,2002,2009 and 2017. Research was based upon the spatial and temporal change of river pattern with respect to meandering and flow pattern observations for 30 years’ temporal data with almost 7 years’ interval. Image preprocessing was applied on the imagery of the study area for the better visualization and identification of variations among the objects. Object-based image analysis technique was performed for better results of a feature on the earth surface. Model builder (Arc GIS) was used for calculation of temporal variation of the river. In observation many natural factor involves for pattern changes such as; floods and rain fall.

Mosques were constructed in the past as Decorative patterns; simple buildings for offering prayers five times a day. However, in subsequent periods, Categorization; various features of ornamentation in the form of geometry and arabesque were applied to Geometry; the surfaces of mosques to portray paradise symbolically. This research applied descriptive Arabesque approaches to examine the surviving patterns of the Aga-Khan-awarded Bhong Mosque and categorized these patterns as geometric and arabesque. This categorization was achieved by photography, use of software for patterns, and conducting interviews with local elderly persons in the region. The geometric patterns were simple 6- and 8-point star patterns. Several of the earliest examples of rosette petals exhibited 8- and 10-point star patterns and were categorized by incorporating the geometric style and location of mosques. This research investigated different arabesque categories and inscription types and determined the aesthetic and cultural reasons for their placement on various surfaces. Frescoes had different types of flowers, fruits, and leaves, and a few of them belonged to the local region.

However, this institution prospered in the times of Muslim rulers and Kings and provided a concrete foundation to seekers for spiritual knowledge and intellectual debate.
