The incident took place on the bricks outside of Jackson Arch after BRC, where Rat companies march back to barracks. After Echo Company executed a col- umn right to arrive at Jackson’s statue; the Cadre sergeant called out a “mark-time march” and “halt” command. Immediately behind Echo Company was Alpha Com- pany, following closely behind.

Unfortunately for the Echo Company Rats, the Alpha Company Rats proceeded to steamroll over the rear of Echo’s formation seeing how no Echo Company Rat was tall enough to register in Alpha’s line of sight. Despite the cries of Echo Com- pany Rats for Alpha Company to stop, Alpha Company’s Master Sergeant’s boister- ous cadence drowned out any plea. Only after half of Echo Company Rats were trampled did Alpha Company come to an abrupt halt. Once Alpha Company cadre became aware of the situation, their Rats were ordered to wipe off the Echo Rats from their shoes and clean up the mess, so as to not dirty up the stoops.

Mortified by the dirt and shoe marks left on Echo Company Rats uniforms, Echo Company cadre seized this as an opportunity to reinforce the benefits of planning ahead. Having planned ahead like good Rats, each Echo Company Rat had a fresh uniform ready to be worn that day. When asked for a comment, a member of Echo Company cadre applauded his peers for their ability to use the incident as a training exercise, while an Alpha Company cadre member insisted that “Echo heard us com- ing and they should have moved out of our way”.
