The Mauli Ola Foundation (MOF) was organized to educate, spread awareness and provide alternative therapies for genetic disorders, such as cystic fibrosis. MOF created on-site national support programs for kids and adults with life threatening illnesses and disabilities. These on site programs include surf experience days and children’s hospital visits, in which we connect the world’s best action sports athletes with these kids for special one on one session’s. MOF raises funds through donations, memberships, merchandise, golf tournaments and unique concert events. With this funding we provide an immediate direct option for children with genetic disorders and other conditions. 13TH ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT FUNDRAISER PURPOSE EXCLUSIVE ONE ON ONE SURF SESSIONS FOR THOSE CHILDREN UNABLE TO PHYSICALLY CONNECTING THE BEST SURFERS WITH PARTICIPATE, OUR MOF SUPERSTARS VISIT CHILDREN IN NEED CHILDREN IN THE HOSPITAL 13TH ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT FUNDRAISER PREVIOUS SUPPORT MAULI OLA ALL STARS (PAST/PRESENT) Lauren Enever Kelly Slater Lisa Anderson Taylor Hawkins Buttons Sage Erickson Jamie O’Brien Mick Fanning Sebastian Ziets Torrey Meister Taylor Knox Sunny Garcia Benji Weatherly Fred Pattacia Kalohe Andino Ulu Boy Kala Alexander Julian Wilson Will Skudin Ezkiel Lau Ysod Williams Kalani Robb Jo Jo Roper Eli Olson Coco Ho Austin Keen and more…. 13TH ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT FUNDRAISER SUPPORT OPTIONS TITLE - $25,000 TOWEL - $4,000 PRESENTING - $12,500 BEVERAGE / COCKTAIL - $3,000 FLAG - $7,500 BEVERAGE (NON ALCOHOLIC) - $2,750 CART - $5,000 HOLE - $2,500 LUNCH - $5,000 TEAM ENTRY - $2,000 SINGLE ENTRY - $500 SHIRT - $5,000 “Mauli Ola has personally been one of my favorite non-profit organizations to collaborate with. Surfing can be a scary activity for many people and I have to admit, many patients are a bit apprehensive. What I have seen has been amazing. Most children although scared will be standing on their surfboards before noon. Mauli Ola has taken notice of special needs group and given them the opportunity to become active, step outside of their homes on lazy Saturdays to catch the sun and enjoy the ocean! The surfers that volunteer their time for these children are patient and provide the best guidance. The patients love it and keep coming back year after year. The experience is unlike no other.” M. Surfing, gender and politics: Identity and society in the history of South African surfing culture in the twentieth-century. by Glen Thompson Dissertation presented for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (History) at Stellenbosch University Supervisor: Prof. Albert M. Swart Marc 2015 0 Stellenbosch University https://scholar.sun.ac.za Declaration By submitting this thesis electronically, I declare that the entirety of the work contained therein is my own, original work, that I am the author thereof (unless to the extent explicitly otherwise stated) and that I have not previously in its entirety or in part submitted it for obtaining any qualification. Date: 8 October 2014 Copyright © 2015 Stellenbosch University All rights reserved 1 Stellenbosch University https://scholar.sun.ac.za Abstract This study is a socio-cultural history of the sport of surfing from 1959 to the 2000s in South Africa. It critically engages with the “South African Surfing History Archive”, collected in the course of research, by focusing on two inter-related themes in contributing to a critical sports historiography in southern Africa. The first is how surfing in South Africa has come to be considered a white, male sport. The second is whether surfing is political. In addressing these topics the study considers the double whiteness of the Californian influences that shaped local surfing culture at “whites only” beaches during apartheid. The racialised nature of the sport can be found in the emergence of an amateur national surfing association in the mid-1960s and consolidated during the professionalisation of the sport in the mid-1970s.

  • World's Longest Running Surf Event Stays at Bells
Wednesday, 1 April, 2015 WORLD’S LONGEST RUNNING SURF EVENT STAYS AT BELLS BEACH The Andrews Labor Government has renewed its support for the world’s longest running surfing event, the Rip Curl Pro, until 2017. The Bells Beach fixture, one of the flagship dates on Regional Victoria’s tourism calendar, is a globally recognised event on the World Surf League Championship Tour, and every year attracts the very best surfers. International stars Kelly Slater and Sunny Garcia are among the sport’s hottest identities who have made countless trips to the Surf Coast, while current joint World Number Two Steph Gilmore and reigning champion Mick Fanning headline the list of Australian favourites. The Rip Curl Pro is yet another opportunity for Victoria to show its strengths for holding world-renowned sporting events and the Championship Tour second leg is exactly that. More than 1.8 million people in 182 countries streamed last year’s event online, and it was beamed into 11.6 million households. The Easter event showcases one of Victoria’s top tourist hotspots to all corners of the state, the country and the world. The event doubles as a crucial driver of the burgeoning surf industry that is synonymous with Torquay and surrounds. Fanning and fellow reigning champion, Hawaiian Carissa Moore will be aiming to go back-to-back and ring the iconic bell once more as the event gets under way today. Quotes attributable to Minister for Sport, Tourism and Major Events, John Eren “There’s nothing better than a packed Bells Beach at Easter, watching the world’s best battle each other – and the forces of nature – in their quest to ring the famous bell.” “The Andrews Labor Government knows how important this time-honoured event is to tourism in Victoria, particularly here at one of Australia’s top holiday destinations.” “High profile sporting events play a major part in Victoria’s tourism strengths.
