A Place at the Table Some snapshots of the Oregon LGBTQ movement’s history By George T. Nicola Last updated 11-16-2017 By the LGBTQ movement, we mean the movement that advocates that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) persons be treated equally and with the same dignity as heterosexual and cisgender people. This includes non- discrimination and non-bias based on sexual orientation and gender identity. A Place at the Table ● A GLAPN 11/16/2017 1 Presentation By the mid 1960s, the City of Portland had abandoned its efforts to close all the gay bars in the city limits. The bars were not well identified, but gay men and lesbians who could locate them felt relatively secure within their walls. One of those people, Walter Cole, bought a bar in Old Town, Northwest Downtown in 1967 and welcomed a mixed but primarily lesbian clientele. The bar was originally named Demas Tavern, but changed its name to Darcelle XV Showplace for Walter Cole on the right, with Walter’s drag persona. It became famous for its elaborate his life partner, the late Roxy Neuhart drag shows and remains open today as Oregon’s oldest gay bar. In addition to being iconic, the club has raised large amounts of money for local LGBTQ causes. In 2016, Guinness World Records listed Darcelle as the “oldest drag queen performer”. The Oregonian Polling on Pembina? Charlie Hales' re-election campaign discloses poll By Brad Schmidt June 30, 2015 When Portland Mayor Charlie Hales abruptly yanked support last month for a controversial propane terminal, a shell-shocked port executive said the about-face was driven by Hales' 2016 re-election campaign. Inside City Hall, word spread about public-opinion polling that helped cement the decision. "We do not have any polling numbers," mayoral spokesman Dana Haynes told The Oregonian/OregonLive in an email May 7. But there was, indeed, polling. Just not publicly funded polling. Hales' re-election campaign this month reported spending $19,750 for polling and surveys. The transaction date is listed as May 18 – after Hales' decision to pull support of the Pembina Pipeline Corp. project – but it isn't immediately clear when the polling was completed. The poll was conducted by California-based Fairbank, Maslin, Maullin, Metz & Associates. This marks Hales' second expenditure on polling in 2015. His campaign also spent $5,000 in January on a poll by California-based Goodwin Simon Strategic Research. Around the same time, Hales and Commissioner Steve Novick opted to put their controversial proposal for a street fee on hiatus, although they've said they did so at the behest of state politicians. Regarding Pembina, Hales told The Oregonian on May 7 that he pulled his support for the propane project after receiving thousands of emails and phone calls from opponents. "At some point," he said, "those of us in power have to listen to those who put us there." Jay Clark, Hales' campaign fundraiser, declined to talk about the poll Tuesday and referred questions to Hales or strategist Mark Wiener.

IN THE SUPREME COURT OF OHIO John Michael Fitzpatrick, ^ 7 - 1231 Relator, v. Petition For Writ Of Mandamus Original Action Hon. Kathleen Aubry, Respondent. PETITION FOR WRIT OF MANDAMUS John Michael Fitzpatrick, Relator 7309 Fall Creek Lane Columbus, Ohio 43235 614.678.4559 [email protected] Hon. Kathleen Aubry, Respondent Wyandot County, Ohio Common Pleas Court Judge 109 South Sandusky Street Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351 419.294.1727 1. On the 5`h day of July 2007, Scott Williams, Plaintiff in Williams v. Williams, case no. 06 DR 0105, filed in the Common Pleas Court of Wyandot County, Ohio, a motion seeking to bar contact between 27 month old Neil Franklin Williams and John Michael Fitzpatrick. See plaintiffs motion exhibit one. See defendant's opposition exhibit two. 2. On the 6`h day of July 2007, Common Pleas Court Judge Kathleen Aubry granted Plaintiff's motion barring contact between the minor child and Relator, casting a false light on John Michael Fitzpatrick as a promoter of sexual deviancy. See Judgment exhibit three. 3. Plaintiffs Motion cited the sexually explicit contents of a videotape production by Relator entitled "HOW SAY YOU, JURY NULLIFICATION IN AMERICA" which was twice cablecast in West Hollywood, California and has not been the subject of crin-unal court proceedings nor been found obscene. Judge Aubry stated she "viewed the tape and found that interspersed in a long discourse with a First Amendment Attorney, were clips of pomographic material which appeared to be gratuitous and unnecessary to understand the topic." Perhaps Judge Aubry is so familiar with images of bestiality and transsexual oral copulation that mere mention would suffice (absent the images themselves), but most members of the viewing (and voting) public are not that well informed.
