Major Exhibition Poses Tough Questions and Reasserts Fluxus Attitude
Contact: Alyson Cluck 212/998-6782 or [email protected] Major Exhibition Poses Tough Questions And Reasserts Fluxus Attitude Fluxus and the Essential Questions of Life and Fluxus at NYU: Before and Beyond open at NYU’s Grey Art Gallery on September 9, 2011 New York City (July 21, 2011)—On view from September 9 through December 3, 2011, at New York University’s Grey Art Gallery, Fluxus and the Essential Questions of Life features over 100 works dating primarily from the 1960s and ’70s by artists such as George Brecht, Robert Filliou, Ken Friedman, George Maciunas, Yoko Ono, Nam June Paik, Mieko Shiomi, Ben Vautier, and La Monte Young. Curated by art historian Jacquelynn Baas and organized by Dartmouth College’s Hood Museum of Art, the exhibition draws heavily on the Hood’s George Maciunas Memorial Collection, and includes art objects, documents, videos, event scores, and Fluxkits. Fluxus and the Essential Questions of Life is accompanied by a second installation, Fluxus at NYU: Before and Beyond, in the Grey’s Lower Level Gallery. Fluxus—which began in the 1960s as an international network of artists, composers, and designers―resists categorization as an art movement, collective, or group. It also defies traditional geographical, chronological, and medium-based approaches. Instead, Fluxus participants employ a “do-it-yourself” attitude, relating their activities to everyday life and to viewers’ experiences, often blurring the boundaries between art and life. Offering a fresh look at Fluxus, the show and its installation are George Maciunas, Burglary Fluxkit, 1971. Hood designed to spark multiple interpretations, exploring Museum of Art, Dartmouth College, George Maciunas Memorial Collection: Gift of the Friedman Family; the works’ relationships to key themes of human GM.986.80.164. -

Armajani Home Page
Reflections on Works by Siah Armajani in the Grey Gallery’s Collection Shiva Balaghi, December 2008 A textured black background merges into two abstract spheres—one layered in cold hues of blue and white, the other in warm hues of ochre and brown—evoking a night sky that contains within it the celestial bodies. Closer inspection of the surface of Siah Armajani’s painting Prayer for the Sun (1962) reveals barely legible Persian letters and numbers etched onto the image of the sun and the moon. The contemplative work quietly references the mystical astrology of Sufism. “All Persian art, all Persian poetry,” Armajani has said, “comes out of Sufism, which is not a sect but an alternative human strategy. It is a civilizing and humanizing influence that works very quietly and without calling attention to itself.”(1) Siah Armajani, Prayer for the Sun, 1962 oil on canvas, 48 1/4 x 32 inches (122.6 x 81.3 cm) Grey Art Gallery, New York University Art Collection Gift of Abby Weed Grey, G1975.81 Works by Siah Armajani featured in the Grey Art Gallery’s collection date from the first decade of his artistic career, some created while he was still a college student in Minneapolis. It was there that Abby Grey met the artist and collected half a dozen works that reveal the early intellectual and artistic experimentation of Armajani, now recognized as one of the leading public artists in the United States. Armajani was born and raised in Tehran. His father, Agha Khan Armajani, a successful merchant who imported European textiles, sent his children to a Presbyterian missionary school and provided them a comfortable, book-filled home. -

Contact: Ally Mintz [email protected] | 212.998.6782 GREY EXHIBITS 20TH-CENTURY INDIAN ART FROM ITS REMARKABLE HOLDINGS Abby Grey and Indian Modernism: Selections from the NYU Art Collection Lower Level Gallery, January 13–April 4, 2015 During four trips to India from 1960 to 1968, inveterate collector Abby Weed Grey—founder of NYU’s fine arts museum—explored the vital art scene that blossomed after Indian independence in 1947. Abby Grey and Indian Modernism: Selections from the NYU Art Collection spotlights Mrs. Grey’s pioneer- ing efforts, presenting Indian modernism through the lens of her ardent engagement with the country and its art. On view from January 13 through April 4, 2015, the exhibition is co-curated by American art his- torian Susan Hapgood and Indian poet and critic Ranjit Hoskote. In establishing the Grey Art Gallery in 1974, Mrs. Grey provided it with a founding collection of nearly 800 artworks, more than 80 of which were pur- chased during her travels to India. With this act of generosity, she created the most important trove of modern Indian art in an American university museum. Yet until Abby Grey and Indian Modernism, these works have rarely been seen in public as a group. The exhibition includes 27 paintings and works on paper, and one sculpture, by 20 artists. These are enriched and contextualized by illuminating ephemera from Mrs. Grey’s travels, and from her diaries, all of which are preserved in the New York University Archives. Reflecting current interest in this period of art from India, Abby Grey and Indian Modernism will complement a related exhibition at the Queens Museum of Art, After Midnight: Indian Modernism to Contemporary India Maqbool Fida Husain 1947/1997 (on view March 1–June 28, 2015), which highlights two defin- Virgin Night, 1964. -
Streaming-Live!* Dustin Poirier Vs Conor Mcgregor Live @Ufc 23 Jan 2021
*!streaming-live!* Dustin Poirier vs Conor McGregor Live @ufc 23 Jan 2021 The ‘Mystic Mac’ is back and is ready once again to make his presence felt at the stage where it all began. In the highly-awaited, UFC 257 fight card – two of the most exciting mixed martial artists will battle it out at the Etihad Arena on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi to prove their supremacy in the lightweight category. This is a rematch between No. 2-ranked lightweight and former interim champion Dustin Poirier and former featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor – UFC 257. Conor McGregor – 22-4 – has claimed that he’s hugry as ever and is looking for more blood and vigour in the lead-up to fighting Poirier – 26-1-6 – on Sunday. Poirier and McGregor met in 2014, with McGregor scoring a knockout in less than two minutes. The Irishman would go on to win the featherweight and lightweight championships while also retiring multiple times, entering the boxing ring against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and having several issues with the law. Poirier eventually made his own move to lightweight, finding the most success of his career and capturing the interim title in the division. All these years later, McGregor vs. Poirier feels like a fresh pairing. Max Holloway destroyed Calvin Kattar last weekend in the first UFC event of the new year while Michael Chiesa beat Neil Magny in a special midweek show on Wednesday evening. Now, it’s time for the big one as McGregor makes his long-awaited return to the octagon. McGregor beat Poirier at UFC 178 in September 2014 but both fighters have been through a lot since then. -

FS1 UFC TONIGHT Show Quotes and Videos – 12/6/17 BISPING PICKS SWANSON: “CUB IS TOO MUCH ON THE FEET.” Florian on if GSP Defends His Middleweight Title: “I don’t see it happening.” Bisping and Florian discuss GSP’s potential move to welterweight, Holloway’s next opponent, plus if Ronda Rousey signs with the WWE Los Angeles – UFC TONIGHT was hosted by Kenny Florian and guest host Michael Bisping, with Karyn Bryant adding reports. The crew previewed this weekend’s FS1 UFC FIGHT NIGHT: SWANSON VS. ORTEGA and interviewed headliners Cub Swanson and Brian Ortega. UFC TONIGHT Kenny Florian believes Georges St-Pierre’s won’t fight at 185 again: “I spoke to him this morning. He has ulcerative colitis and he’s lost a lot of weight. For him to fight at 185 again, I don’t see it happening. He also told me he doesn’t want to hold up the division. If he does come back, I imagine it’ll be at a lighter weight class.” UFC TONIGHT guest host Michael Bisping on GSP not defending the middleweight belt: “I wish him the best. It would have been nice to see him defend the belt at 185.” VIDEO: Florian and Bisping discuss Georges St-Pierre not staying at 185 https://twitter.com/UFCONFOX/status/938573229538422785 Florian on if Max Holloway will ever fight Conor McGregor: “It depends on the weight class. At 145, I’d say it’s a 10-percent chance. But at 155 pounds, I’d say 75-percent. Holloway is still a growing boy.” Bisping on if Holloway will rematch McGregor: “Do I want to see it happen? Yes. -
