SAINT JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA January 26, 2020 Liturgical Life FEAST of the PRESENTATION of the LORD—February 2 Every year on February 2nd, the Church celebrates the 40th day following the birth of Jesus as the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple, fulfilling the Mosaic law for the purification of the mother and the act of gratitude on the part of the parents for the child they have received. This day, also known as Candlemas, recalls that the priest encountered the Christ Child in the Temple and praised God for this “light for revelation to the nations.” On this day the Church blesses candles, “which we are eager to carry in praise of your name, so that treading the path of virtue, we may reach that light which never fails.” Next Sunday at all of the Masses, candles will be blessed; families are invited to bring candles for devotional use at home to this Mass. At the 10:30 AM Mass and 1:30 PM Extraordinary Form Mass, the procession, as provided in the Roman Missal, recalls that Encounter in the Temple, “So let us also, gathered together by the Holy Spirit, proceed to the house of God to encounter Christ. There we shall find him and recognize him in the breaking of the bread, until he comes again, revealed in glory.” The 10:30 AM Mass will begin in the Chapel with the Blessing & Procession for those who are able.
