Federal A number of carbon fee bills have recently been introduced into congress. These are summarized in this report. The Carbon Tax Center and Citizen’s Climate Lobby are advocating for a carbon tax at the federal level.
Region British Columbia implemented a carbon tax in July 2008, with a rate of $10 per ton CO2. It increased by $5 per ton each year through July 2012, when it reached $30 per ton. The tax applies to almost all fossil fuels burned inside the province. On Oct. 28 2013, Governors of WA, OR, CA, and Premier of BC signed the PCC Action Plan on Climate. It was a landmark agreement, where these leaders agreed to limit and price carbon in their jurisdictions, among other actions.
