17.1 About Port Elizabeth Port Elizabeth is one of the largest cities in South Africa, situated in the Eastern Cape Province, 770km east of Cape Town. The city often shortened to PE and nicknamed "The Friendly City" or "The Windy City", stretches for 16 km along Algoa Bay, and is one of the major seaports in South Africa. Port Elizabeth (PE) is fondly refered to as “Ibhayi” by Xhosa speakers, “Die Baai” by Afrikaners and “The Bay” by English speakers and the “friendly city” by all.PE was founded as a town in 1820 to house British settlers as a way of strengthening the border region between the Cape Colony and the Xhosa. It now forms part of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality which has a population of 1,152,115 million people. Port Elizabeth is a large city with many shopping malls, a beautiful seaside boardwalk area in summer strand, pristine beaches and entertainment galore with a wide variety of places of worship.

17.2 Dora Nginza Dora Nginza Hospital is a district hospital with a 220-bed capacity. District serve a defined population within a health district and support primary health care; with a district hospital package of care on a 24 hour basis. They have general practitioners and clinical nurse practitioners providing health services; it includes in-patient and ambulatory health services as well as emergency health services. District hospitals provide: - Services of a family physician – not available at all district hospitals - Specialist outreach clinics – this varies from weekly visits to monthly visits depending on the speciality and the logistics involved. - The clinics are run by specialists visiting from regional hospitals and supported by the district hospital

Most district hospitals have specialist clinics in the following domains: - Internal - Orthopaedic - General surgery - Psychiatry - and - Paediatrics Take note: some hospitals also have ENT clinics

17.5 Information & Communications Technology (ICT) There are laptops and routers available from the SUNLOC office. Each item issued will require a R100 refundable deposit. Damaged, lost or late return of items will result in the forfeiture of the refundable deposit. There is Wi-Fi available for students to use for academic purposes.

17.7 Address and driving directions Take N2 towards Somerset West, exit on the right to stay on N2 partial toll road go through 3 traffic circles (30km). Take exit 742 for R102/Kaapweg/Cape Road toward Port Elizabeth (230m). Merge onto Cape Rd/R102 (2,5km). Turn right onto William Moffett Expressway (3,8km). Continue onto 17th Ave (1.1km). Continue onto Newcombe Ave (180m). Turn left at Biggar St (240m). Continue straight onto Sibelius St (800m). Turn right onto Schubert Rd (290m). Turn right onto Beethoven Ave. Destination will be on the left – 42 Beethoven Ave, Port Elizabeth 6070 (350m).

17.8 Facilities KITCHEN: - Fully equipped communal kitchen with all cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils provided - A 4-plate stove with oven - Fridge in kitchen for communal use and bar fridge in each bedroom - Microwave oven in communal kitchen TELEVISION: - Television in the living area BEDROOMS: - 2 fully furnished bedrooms with two single beds; own bedding to be provided BATHROOM: - Showers are for communal use - En-suite bathroom in main bedroom - Communal bathroom - Please conserve water and electricity at all times as we are in crisis CLEANING SERVICE AND LAUNDRY: - Students are required to keep all communal areas and their bedrooms clean at all times - Communal areas will be cleaned weekly - Kitchen is to be kept neat and tidy at all times, no pile up of dirty tableware - Laundry is the responsibility of the student - Laundry facilities are available, and students are to provide own detergents

The following items are prohibited in all rooms: - Smoking - Pets - Overnight guests – family, friends and acquaintances - Loud music and disruptive behavior

1.10 Safety & Security - Keep cars locked and keep valuables out of view - Students are urged to look after keys, locks and remotes as the safety of all students will be jeopardized in the event of a loss - Personal valuable items are to be locked away when not in use - Close all windows and lock all doors upon exit - Report any incidents or complaints immediately to Ms. Nicole Crow on 082 420 4864
