Dear Students, Parents and Friends,

The more I read about our Sisters of St. Joseph and continue to study the women who have gone before us, the more I am humbled by their leadership and vision in service to others. Just recently I have been blessed with two different encounters with our Sisters: the Sisters of St. Joseph of St. Augustine, Florida and Events Calendar the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange. In a spirit of unifying love and in relationship with the dear neighbor, each is uniquely carrying Nov. 5: Father­Daughter Dance 6:00 pm on the heart and soul of those first founding sisters from 1650 Le Puy, France. In looking to all of the Sisters of St. Joseph across the nation and Nov. 8: Early Dismissal 12:45 pm | Election Day our world, their pursuit of "service to the dear neighbor without distinction" continues to influence our work here at OLP. What is distinct about our CSJ congregation is the manner in Nov. 11: No School (Veteran's Day) which they serve ­ with joy! Nov. 15: Winter Arts Festival 11:00 am As educators in the Catholic faith, we are blessed with so many moments to simultaneously celebrate our devotion to our Lord and to the education of our young women. These Nov. 16: Frosh Retreat complimentary tasks are what give joy to our work as OLP faculty and staff, and lead us to a deeper call in our ministry. Nov. 18: OLP/Saints Fall Student Art Show

In all that we do here, we seek those moments to model for our young women the joy we Nov. 19: Fall Fling for Frosh & Sophomores experience when we can give to others and shape our world for a better tomorrow. Howdy Partners! As we begin this month of gratitude, we would like Recurring Events: to extend our gratitude to you as parents for supporting the educational experience of your daughter(s) here at OLP. As an Every Tuesday: Parents in Prayer 7:45 am administration, we are also incredibly grateful for our faculty and staff who are dedicated to providing an innovative and personalized 1st and 3rd Tuesday: Morning Mass 7:00 am educational experience for OLP students. Pictured below are just a few of the faculty and staff that make OLP so great (this picture Spirit Store Hours: was taken during our annual day of Halloween festivities)! During the month of November, the Spirit Store I had the privilege of attending the Junior Retreat with half of our will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Junior class at Whispering Winds Catholic Conference Center in 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Can't wait? Order online Julian, CA. It was again a reminder of how fortunate we are to from our Spirit Store. celebrate our Catholic faith within the constructs of our school. The other half of the Junior class participated in two days of a Catholic Social Justice Symposium. The first day was spent learning and discussing issues surrounding the death penalty. Their second day focus was eccumnenical in spirit, as they participated in a field trip that involved a visit to the Islamic Center of San Diego and the Ohr Shalom Synagogue. In their entirety the two days were a celebration of faith and our calling to be peacemakers in our world.

In effort to support our community's participation in the national vote, students will be dismissed at 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8. Additionally, Wednesday, November 9, will now be a regular schedule with a dismissal at 2:15 pm.

The polling station will reside on the bottom floor of the OLP parking garage, which allows us to block off access to the general campus while school is in session..

Thank you for keeping our Senior retreat participants in prayer as they finished their faith­filled three days at Whispering Winds November 2­4. Additionally, the annual Frosh Retreat for the Class of 2020 will take place on Wednesday, November 16 at Our Mother of Confidence Catholic Church.

The performances of Beauty & the Beast, featuring our new OLP orchestra under the direction of Ms. Tamara Paige, have been a huge success! This weekend's shows are sold out. Click here for a glimpse of this amazing performance.

The annual Winter Arts Festival will take place on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 from 11:00 am ­12:05 pm. The assembly will showcase student artwork and performances from all disciplines of art. Features will include student artwork, choreographed dance routines, theatrical performances, musical ensembles and speech team exhibitions. Throughout the week, student Save the Date art will be on display in the Front Office hallways and on Friday, November 18, 2016, all are invited to the OLP/ Saints Art Show at Saint Augustine High School. Peace Through Prayer Retreat

We have some exciting news: Tina Mickelson and Phil Mickelson, Sr. will be joining us for On Saturday, November 19, world­renowned the OLP Golf Tournament! Golf pro Tina Mickelson will host a short­game clinic at 10:00 am retreat master and author, Father Jacques before the start of the tournament. You also have a chance to complete Tina Mickelson and Phil Philippe, will be presenting a retreat entitled Mickelson, Sr.'s foursome at the tournament. With the support of Maria Shriver, OLP is bringing Architects of Change Live to campus on November 30 for our inaugural conversation series. In the words of Ms. Shriver, an Architect of Change is a "conscious idealist, a person (or people) who see things as they are, but think about what they can be." The premise in this Live series is to spark conversation in an intimate setting because when people come together to listen and share, "minds open, hearts move and Save the Date change happens." CIF tournaments are in full swing. Volleyball lost their first round match of the CIF Volleyball Tournament against Westview High School, wrapping up their season. Cross Country will be competing in their league playoffs next Thursday at Morley Field expecting solid results.

Congratulations are in order for Catalin Yturralde '19 (left) and Maria Morgan '17 (right). Catalin qualified to advance to the CIF Southern California Regional Golf Tournament and Maria has advanced to the singles play­in round of the CIF Individuals Tennis Tournament. To me, World Youth Day was an event that changed the way I saw the world. Before we traveled to Krakow, Poland, I looked at the people around me and didn't see any connections ­ just faces. The international event commemorated the lives of the merciful Jesus, Pope John Paul II, and Saint Mary Faustian Kowalski. After attending this event with the Pope and 3 million Half of our junior class participated in an other young, aspiring Catholics, I have realized that every one around me has a story. No matter the religion or background, everyone has a life story that deserves to be told. overnight retreat at Whispering Winds Oct. 27­ 28 to deepen their Catholic faith. The other half experienced a Social Justice Symposium, After each large event with the Pope, all 3 million youth traveled back to the river, miles away, in a large parade. Each group had a flag representing their country and were wrapped head­to­toe which included traveling to a local Mosque and in their national attire. For miles we walked with the youth of the nation, singing songs of Temple to learn more about the faith of others. different countries, and in that moment I truly felt one with the rest of the world.

Congratulations to our girls who went to Sacramento for the Mock Trial Competition last weekend. Great job!

The Gomez sisters ­ Celia Gomez De Ramirez '59, Carmen Gomez '61 (deceased) and Maria Antonieta Gomez '66 ­ were the first generation of OLP graduates in their family. Maria Antonieta and both of her siblings attended grammar school at OLP in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Since then, Maria Antonieta has had the privilege of watching her daughter, Maria Aidee Gomez '89, and granddaughter, Maria Aidee Varriale Gomez '20, experience all that OLP has to offer.
