The Resolution paves the way and provides for the active participation of women in all aspects of conflict prevention, peace negotiations, peacekeeping, peace building and post-war reconstruction. Ghana, as a Member State of the United Nations, and by the adoption of UNSCR 1325, is obliged to prepare a country specific National Plan of Action (NPA) for the implementation of the Resolution. The Resolution is in line with the Beijing Platform for Action strategy objective on Women, Peace and Conflict Resolution and Management as well as the various Conventions, Treaties, Resolutions, Protocols, Policies and Legal Frameworks of the African Union (AU), and the International Community that Ghana has ratified. Although Ghana has not experienced armed conflicts of grave humanitarian consequences, there have been a number of violent ethnic conflicts with adverse impacts on especially women and girls which make it absolutely appropriate for the implementation of UNSCR 1325 in Ghana. -
India-Ghana Relations
India-Ghana Relations Political relations: Indo-Ghanaian relations have traditionally been warm and friendly. The strong foundation of our bilateral relations was laid by India’s first Prime Minister, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, and Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. The two great leaders also enjoyed a close friendship. Major visits from Ghana in the past include the visit of President Nkrumah in 1961 and President Limann in 1981. President Rawlings made a stopover in Mumbai on his way from Beijing in 1993, and again visited India in 1997 to attend the funeral ceremony of Late Mother Teresa. In addition, there were several Ministerial visits, including that of the Foreign Minister for the NAM Ministerial Conference in April 1986. President Kufuor, accompanied by a high level delegation visited India in August 2002. Four bilateral agreements were signed including one which relates to the setting up of a Centre of Excellence for Training in Information Technology in Accra (which became operational in December 2003); and Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (BIPPA); Protocol on Consultations between MEA and Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and a Cultural and Scientific Exchange Programme. The Vice President of Ghana H.E. Alhaji Aliu Mahama, led a large Ghanaian delegation to the CII conclave held in New Delhi in March 2008. In April 2008, President Kufuor visited India to participate in India-Africa Forum Summit held in New Delhi. Vice President John Dramani Mahama accompanied by Minister of Trade & Industry Ms. Hanna Tetteh visited India to participate in the CII-Exim Bank Conclave in March 2010. -

Several factors have been cited, including the fact that women have a weak foundation in political party leadership which forms the basis for subsequent progression in leadership. In spite of the fact that women have the capacity to compete favorably in national politics if they have a say in choosing who stands for elections at political party level, several studies tend to pay less attention on women’s leadership in political parties at the subnational level. Using qualitative methods, the paper makes a contribution to women’s participation in political leadership using the two dominant political parties, the National Democratic Congress and New Patriotic Party, that have alternated political power in Ghana since the return to constitutional rule in 1993. -

Faced with ever growing demands from its membership, the United Nations has resolved to deliver its services in a way that is more attuned to the needs of the 21st century. This means working with greater efficiency and in a less fragmented fashion, in close coordination with government, donors and multilateral funding institutions. It also means adapting to a new reality in which UN financial assistance to development projects is significantly lower than that of others. Thus, its relevance at the national level is defined more by its role as an honest broker that has unique expertise in a number of areas. 2. In November 2006, the UN Secretary-General’s High-level Panel on System-Wide Coherence (in the areas of development, humanitarian assistance and the environment) issued a report entitled Delivering as One, which served as the basis of the "One UN" approach to development cooperation. As the title of the report suggests, the intention is to deliver better services and expertise by harmonizing, at the country level the work of the various agencies, funds and programmes that work under the UN banner. -

With the introduction of the National Gender Policy, the Government seeks to re-emphasize its greater objectives, to continue working tirelessly for the greater development of both men and women. It is our belief that continuing to reduce poverty levels, improving health and living standards in Ghana is contingent upon the formulation of effective policies that promote gender equality, equity and women’s empowerment at all levels and sectors. It is crucial, that, Government has a policy that further enhances women’s rights and continues to provide a clear framework for addressing inequalities deeply rooted in our society. The National Gender Policy has been developed with comprehensive insights into the empowerment, rights and access to justice, leadership and accountable governance, gender roles and relations, and economic opportunities for women. The National Gender Policy development process was consultative guided by key stakeholder inputs at the national, regional and district levels, and with the participation of both government and non-government agencies, development partners, traditional authorities, and the Media across the country. -
