BPL members and staff worked out ways to raise cash for charity Macmillan.

The Barnsley Metrodome, Hoyland Leisure Centre and sites across Bassetlaw all took part in Macmillan’s world’s biggest coffee morning, a charity push which sees people nationwide host hot drinks and cakes to raise cash. The Metrodome went one step further, offering existing members the chance to bring a friend in exchange for a small donation, and encouraging people to attend Friday morning classes decked out in pink. Attendees added a bright splash of colour to the regular Friday Grit, Aqua, Body Pump and Yoga sessions. Macmillan provide support to everyone affected by cancer and these coffee mornings, which started in 1990, are an essential annual fundraiser.

A Winner Bakes It All competition earned the star baker a free month, and raffles also boosted their big days. They raised a whopping £404.61 for the charity. Metrodome event organiser Laura Allen said: “ I would just like to thank all our members and my staff for the fantastic support. “

Hoyland Leisure Centre’s event, organised by Jon McCool, raised £115.00. And BPL’s Bassetlaw sites, in Bircotes, Kilton, and raised a grand total of £240.00.

Bassetlaw Customer Service advisor, Nicola Boswell added, ‘’ I would like to add a special mention of our swimming teacher, Alison Brewer, who has been organising Macmillan coffee mornings in our area for many years and will continue to do so in the future. She puts her heart and soul into the event and we are very grateful.’’ In total, that means BPL contributed almost £760.00 to the Macmillan cause.
