THE UNIFYING POWER OF SPORTS

Sport is a unique and important connective tissue that binds people together, both across and within societies. Sport unites and inspires people, inculcates strong values in them, and plays an important part in national development.

As South Africa’s Nobel Peace Prize-winning former leader Nelson Mandela said: “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to youth in a language they understand. Sport can create hope where there was only despair.”

MAKING A SPORTING POWERHOUSE The Vedanta Group has been incubating sporting programmes at the grassroots level to transform India into a global sporting powerhouse. To give wings to this dream of letting every child play and excel in sports, Vedanta Sports was born as an umbrella brand designed to create a unified narrative for all the sporting activities across the group.

VEDANTA SPORTS: FOCUS ON FOOTBALL Vedanta shares the dream of millions of Indians who want to see the country on the world football stage. To achieve this goal, Vedanta has invested Rs 100 crore in the past decade to develop grassroots football in the country. Two state-of-the-art academies have been set up in Goa and Rajasthan, showcasing Vedanta’s commitment to the cause of the football, the most-loved sport globally. The residential football training programmes are completely free for budding footballers and provides them with nutrition and education as well. The plan is to identify talented youngsters who are passionate about soccer, induct them into the residential programme at the academies for a four-year training curriculum . The thrust is on holistic development as the football academies look to nurture and develop the talented youths into professional footballers and well-disciplined citizens. Sesa Football Academy FUELLING A PASSION Goa - once a Portuguese colony - has always rooted for football. The history of football in Goa dates back to 1883 when Reverent Fr. William Robert Lyons, an Irish priest, introduced the sport to the people there. The first football game was played in Panjim in the year 1900. And the passion lives on even today.

The Sesa Football Academy was set up in 1999 to fulfil the dreams and aspirations of Goans to excel in the sport. The vision was to create a premier academy which would produce quality footballers for the state and the national level. The academy, which came up on a reclaimed mine in Sanquelim, provides the infrastructure and ecosystem SFA team with Chief minister of Goa and for identifying, nurturing and building former Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs future talent in football.

Vedanta set up another campus for the senior team at Sirsaim in 2008. The SFA senior team has risen through the ranks in the Goa local league, and now features in the Goa Pro League, the premier football league in the state.

MAKING OF CHAMPIONS Vedanta has been one of the foremost promoters of football over the years. The testimony to the all-round efforts put in over the last 20 years is that 9 footballers from the academy have played for the Indian national team, while many more have represented India at various age group tournaments. SFA has so far groomed at least 200 footballers, with graduates playing for prestigious I-League, ISL and reputed clubs across the country. Some notable alumni from the academy include Adil Khan, Denzil Franco, Mickey Fernandes and Pratesh Shirodkar who have brought laurels to the country.

TAKING FOOTBALL TO THE GRASSROOTS SFA has expanded its reach in recent years to identify talented school kids in Goa through the Vedanta Football Schools initiative. These football schools – rolled out in 2012 - identify and nurture football talent in the age group of 6-14 years from nearby schools and provide them non-residential football training. These centres – which are geared to help children inculcate sports skills and develop team spirit and healthy habits in children - are now turning out to be a feeding pool for the academy, with students from these schools regularly making it to the residential football academy.

ZINC FOOTBALL Inspired by the success of Sesa Football Academy, Hindustan Zinc embarked on a massive grassroots programme – ‘Zinc Football’ - a one-of-its-kind football development initiative. Started in 2017, the Zinc Football academy focuses on timely intervention of technology and data-driven analysis to help develop grassroots football in the country and take Indian football to the next level. The residential academy at Zawar in Udaipur is equipped with world-class facilities and the country’s first ever ‘technology-led football training’ – the unique F-Cube technology.

IDENTIFYING UNTAPPED TALENT In the past two years of its existence, Zinc Football has been scouting for talent across Rajasthan through the Zinc Football Youth Tournament and other football clinics. India has a huge talent pool that is hidden in rural hinterland and tribal areas, and they just need guidance, support and opportunities. The plan is to reach out to every talent in the state, even if they are from remote corners.

Zinc Football launched a massive outreach programme in Rajasthan to expose 350 passionate boys and girls to the latest training methods through the 12 community football centres, called Zinc Football Schools. Apart from development of Indian football, the aim is to leverage the power of the world’s most loved sport at this tender age so that they can make a positive impact on the community in the days ahead.

A STATE-OF-THE-ART ACADEMY The Zinc Football Academy is equipped with 3 FIFA quality turfs and a 7v7-sized natural grass ground for training and practice, all equipped with team dugouts. In addition, there is a multi-sport ground for recreational sports like basketball, volleyball, badminton, and . With children getting access to state-of-the-art facilities for regular training under experienced coaches, the Zinc Football squad has been able to bring in commendable accolades over the past two years – from coming second in the first-ever Rajasthan State Men’s League while playing against teams much older and physically stronger, to qualify for the Subroto Cup in its debut attempt.

TECHNOLOGY AT PLAY The introduction of F-Cube Training and Assessment Technology, the key developmental parameters at the Zinc Football Academy and Zinc Football Schools, ensures that players are continuously evaluated, monitored and analysed through well-regulated player data tracking, which helps qualified coaching staff to take appropriate steps for the right development of these children. F-Cube is a holistic technology-driven, sports, health and fitness platform which was developed to analyse the six basic skills required in football — dribbling, passing, heading, shooting, trapping and tackling. This revolutionary software is used at the Zinc Football Academy to monitor and enhance players’ performances. F-Cube has a customised training curriculum under which every player’s response time, endurance, hand-eye coordination, communication, physical classification, foot-eye coordination, memory, agility, accuracy, among others, is reviewed and recorded. Unlike traditional training methods, F-Cube focuses on digital engagement and gamification to retain the interest of players.

FOOTBALL SCOUTING One of the keys to secure holistic growth in footballing standards is through scouting, and this is where Zinc Football has taken a big leap. In its first year, ZF organized 43 scouting initiatives including Talent Evaluation Camps, and District & State level Football Tournaments. Keeping the momentum going, the Zinc Football Youth Tournament was conducted in the second year, reaching out to 23 districts of Rajasthan with over 5,000 children participating.

EMPOWERING WOMEN THROUGH SPORT In line with the Vedanta Group’s key focus on women empowerment, Vedanta Women’s League was rolled out in collaboration with Goa Football Association. The league provides a platform for women footballers in the state to gain competitive experience and showcase their skills.

The Vedanta Women’s League is gaining popularity with the successful completion of the three editions reaching out to more than 300 aspiring footballers. Two of these girls have represented the senior national women’s team in various tournaments. The prodigal find of the 2017 edition of the women’s league, Karishma Shirvoikar, went on to don the national colours for the India under-17 team. She made history by scoring the fastest goal in the National Women’s Championships where she found the net within 15 seconds of kick-off. Karishma was given scholarship by Vedanta and has been offered a chance for football trial with a reputed international professional club.

VEDANTA YOUTH CUP: SHOWCASING SKILLS With the vision of providing the country’s young AWARDS & footballers a platform to compete against each other ACCOLADES and showcase their skills at a national level, the Vedanta Youth Cup was launched in 2019. These sessions are conducted by renowned national players, administrators, coaches and alumni from Vedanta’s academies to inspire the children during the Covid break. The lockdown period also came in handy for upgrading the computer skills of coaches and technical staff, which in the long run will help in introducing computer-based training modules.

PARA ATHLETES: BREAKING BARRIERS The are international multi-sport events for athletes with a range of disabilities. The Games develop equality, transform attitudes and promote social inclusion by breaking down social barriers and discrimination against people with impairment.

Before the Rio Paralympics 2016, there was little recognition for para athletes, who barely received support from the government, sports organizations and corporates. However, India’s successful outing at the Games in September 2016, where the country won 4 medals (2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze) with breaking the world record, marked a shift in how the Indian para athlete fraternity was perceived.

While government-appointed coaches are available in state run stadia, para athletes are in in need of funds for their sports kits, nutritious diet, physiotherapeutic treatment and exposure to tournaments at the domestic and international levels. And this this is when Cairn decided to step in and provide assistance to para athletes.

PROJECT DIVYANG – LEADING THE WAY Cairn has been supporting 10 high-potential para athletes from Rajasthan since December 2016 through the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) under its Project Divyang initiative.

The athletes are being financially supported for specialized training and coaching, diet and nutrition supplements, physiotherapy and injury management, incentives for exceptional performances, athlete grants, sports kits and equipment and exposure to domestic and international competitions.

THE CAIRN CHAMPIONS The Cairn-sponsored para athletes are making the country proud. Sundar Singh Gurjar, who hails from the Karauli District in Rajasthan and participates in the javelin, discus and shot- put throws, has won 14 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal at various international events. To his credit, Sundar won the sole gold medal for India at the World Para-Athletics Championship in 2017, and also secured a silver and a bronze at the Asian Para Games 2018.

During the first Indian Open Para Athletics Championship held in Bengaluru in July 2018, Sundar made India proud by breaking the world record in javelin with a throw of 64.11 metres. Sundar was felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who also tweeted to congratulate him for this exemplary performance. He attributes his success to the support provided by Cairn and is grateful for their timely intervention. Devendra has been selected for the Tokyo Paralympic Games, scheduled to be held in 2021.

Para athelete Shatabdi Avasthi who comes from Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, always dreamt of joining the army. Her dreams however did not materialise due to an unfortunate accident that resulted in her breaking her spine. A quick venture into the field of social service followed before Shatabdi zeroed in on competing as a para athlete in the shot put category. Never having participated in any tournament prior to her association with PCI and its partnership with Cairn. This included specialised training and coaching, physiotherapy, diet and nutrition supplements etc. Today Shatabdi competes in the shot put category with javelin and discus as secondary events.

Shatabdi has a few national and some international titles to her credit — Silver at the World Para Athletic Grand Prix in 2017 and a Bronze in the same competition in 2018. Shatabdi also represented India at the Asian Para Games 2018 held in Jakarta.

Another star performer is champion athlete Sandeep Singh Maan from Hanumangarh in Rajasthan who competes in 100 m, 200 m and 400 m races. Sandeep, an Arjuna awardee, has won 10 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal at international sporting events. Ever since Cairn joined hands with PCI, para athletes have won 25 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals in internationally recognized events, including the World Para Athletics Championship 2017 and Asian Para Games 2018, and secured a World Record in 2018.

PROJECT DRONACHARYA: FOCUS Hunting is integral to tribal life in . The culture and practice of hunting has been integrated with one of the most popular and traditional sports in Jharkhand, archery. In recent times the state has produced many international players like World Number 1 , silver medallist Madumita Kumari, , Laxmi Rani Majhi and Reena Kumari. The government of Jharkhand has been taking lot of initiatives to promote archery among the local children and teenagers especially those coming from rural areas.

ESL has developed a state-of-the-art archery school – the ESL Dronacharya Archery School - which aims to identify, nurture, handhold and train local talent and provide them with an opportunity to hone their skills in the discipline. The idea is to make sure that they get an opportunity to compete and represent their state and country at national level competitions.

Dronacharya Archery Academy Coach, Kenaram Hansda says, “We have shortlisted 20 students after scouting initiatives across villages. These children have very promising futures, and their shooting skills, grip and stance would improve further during their stint at our school.”

Yavna Kumari Yadav, a child prodigy from a remote village of Jharkhand, Moonidh, who is just 5 is an exceptional archer. Vedanta ESL Archery Academy has been training her to help her realize her full potential. EMPOWERING THE COMMUNITY THROUGH SPORTS

To promote to sport in villages adjacent to the plant, ESL has started a grassroots coaching centre two year back. At present, the coaching centre is training 35 children across the age groups of 8-15 years. Majority of the trainees comprise budding archers from local villages, especially in the tribal dominated belt from Bhagabandha village to Asansol Village.

Training is conducted from 3 pm to 5 pm every day after trainees come back from school, split into three age groups – Under-9, Under-14 and Under-17. The facilities available include residential facility, changing room, dining room and a gymnasium. ESL also supports the students through sports kits, uniform kits, medical facilities, nutrition, ID cards and exposure visits.

SPORTS INITIATIVES ACROSS BUSINESSES

Vedanta Lanjigarh In its endeavor to encourage the traditional sports and talent of the region, Vedanta Ltd Lanjigarh organized Kalahandi-Balangir- Koraput district-level archery competition in collaboration with the district administration of Kalahandi. Last year, the unit organized the second phase of K-B-K district-level archery competition wherein 44 school children from Malkangiri, Rayagada, Bolangir, and Kalahandi districts participated in the two- day competition. The event aimed to promote archery in Kalahandi and its adjoining tribal regions. Vedanta Lanjigarh has also been supporting players and local clubs focussing on games like cricket, football, volleyball, powerlifting, and other sports in the region.

BALCO BALCO ideated Rural Sports, a platform to bring together various villages of Korba and Kawardha district through sports to encourage community wellness. Sports and games like Kabaddi, Short Put, 100m race, Matka race, archery, long jump etc. are organized for the community members. 25 villages from Korba and Kawardha region take part in this Rural Sports fest. Approximately 250 to 300 villagers participate in this Rural Sports fest.

Zinc International In October 2018, Vedanta Zinc International launched the NFA Skorpion Zinc Women’s Super League in partnership with the Namibia Football Association (NFA). The League provided women and girls in the country with a platform to showcase their talent and skills at the highest level, enabling them to participate in international games elsewhere in the world. The Women’s Super League targeted aspiring and talented Namibian women football players between the ages of 16-35 from football clubs across the country.

Malaysian state-owned energy giant Petronas said on Friday it would reshape its portfolio after reporting its first quarterly loss in nearly five years following a coronavirus-related demand slump and lower oil prices. September is celebrated as ‘Poshan Maah’ in the country as a movement against malnutrition. Nand Ghars too are supporting the government in this fight. The first week of Poshan Maah witnessed celebrations at Nand Ghars in the form of recipe trials, baby shower programmes, awareness sessions, plantation drives etc. The ongoing Felicitation of AWWs on Teacher’s Day development of nutri-gardens at Nand Ghars, along with height/weight monitoring will not only diagnose the malnourishment among children but also provide them with sustained nutrition. Nand Ghars are all geared up to dedicate this whole month to nutrition in an attempt to ensure wholesome nourishment across Nand Ghar communities. Nand Ghars in Jharkhand have collaborated with the state government’s Tejaswani Project Poshan Maah celebrations at Nand Ghars with an aim of social-economic empowerment of women. Nand Ghars are serving as ideal resource centres for various training sessions, club meetings, counselling sessions etc. The Nand Ghar staff is supporting the government in on-ground mobilization and enrolment of women for the programme. Nand Ghars have successfully enrolled more than 2000 women so far. CEO Townhall Emphasizing the need for upholding ethical conduct in business practices, CEO Townhall was organized on 27th August 2020 in TSPL. Stressing upon the need to demonstrate unswerving integrity and adherence to ethical code of conduct at all times, Mr Vikas Sharma, CEO & TSPL CEO Townhall WTD, TSPL along with senior leaders of TSPL and STEAG interacted with all the employees of TSPL, STEAG and Sub Business partners. The CEO addressed all to reinforce code of conduct and integrity and encouraged the employees and partners to immediately report any instances of misconduct or deviation to the management, while he also stressed on the consequences of misreporting, deviation from policy & misconduct. The session concluded with signing of pledge to TSPL CEO Townhall uphold and practice high standards of ethics and integrity by CEO TSPL and all the HODs of TSPL, STEAG & Sub Business partners.

Passion to Serve In an endeavour to encourage children to work towards building a career, TSPL organized online career guidance sessions with Chehlanwali Govt. Senior Secondary School. Mr Sandeep Roy, Deputy Legal Head & Ms Ramanpreet Kaur, Associate, Quality Assurance conducted sessions Career guidance session by TSPL team with more than 40 students highlighting various career options, application process, judicious use of internet to discover new career/courses while stressing on how the final years of school are the most crucial in one’s career path. The students and teachers highly appreciated the knowledge-sharing session.

Jharsuguda Vedanta Aluminium is on an exciting journey of growth and innovation, as it powered up the first pot in Potline-6, marking the beginning of phase-1 which will see addition of 168 pots to the current capacity in Jharsuguda. This is in line with Vedanta’s vision to increase metal volume to 1.6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) in the near term and subsequently, unlock 2 MTPA capacity Jharsuguda Potline-6 at Jharsuguda.

Mass thermal screening systems installed at Jharsuguda plant as precaution against COVID: Vedanta Jharsuguda’s Security & Digital teams collaborated to install thermal screening systems at the plant and township entry/exit gates. These thermal camera-based body temperature tracking systems can scan multiple personnel at the same Jharsuguda mass thermal screening systems time. It offers on-screen and audible alerts upon identification of individuals with higher body temperature, aiding rapid detection of potential health aberrations at site.

Vedanta Jharsuguda conducts training on mushroom cultivation for members of Subhalaxmi Co-op: Vedanta conducted two trainings on mushroom cultivation for members of Subhalaxmi Mushroom cultivation training at Jharsuguda Co-op as a part of the company’s annual plan to build entrepreneurial capabilities of women from rural margins of Jharsuguda. This is aimed at helping women empowering themselves financially through micro- enterprises of their own.

Vedanta provides health care facilities at doorstep through Mobile Health Unit at Manoharpur Vedanta Sesa Goa Iron Ore Business reaches out to over 13 remote villages from Manoharpur block of West Singhbhum district from Jharkhand, by providing health care facilities at Doorstep through Mobile Health Unit (MHU). In addition to regular check up, this MHU facility served as a COVID care support during this pandemic time by creating awareness and sensitizing community. The health care initiative of Vedanta Sesa Goa Iron Ore is well appreciated by villagers. The aim of the initiative is to improve the health of villagers by creating much needed quality health facilities to the remote areas of Manoharpur block. Till date MHU Facility at Manoharpur recorded over 10,300 footfall with the reach of the initiative expanding steadily. . Vedanta continues to promote agriculture through ‘Back to Farming’ project Vedanta Sesa Goa Iron Ore continues to provide agricultural assistance under its flagship CSR Program - ‘Back to Farming’ wherein recently company has supported over 57 farmers by providing fertilizers and helping them to bring around 1.2 Hectare of land under cultivation at Piligaon & Amona village. Additionally, Vedanta supported over 50 farmers by providing over 6000 kg of cattle feed at Lamgao.
