“My initial intention wasn’t to make a record at all,” Cornfield muses. “The In Stores - June 25, 2021 whole thing kind of happened by accident. Shannon McNally, has been mining the rich veins of American roots music for more than two decades now. Born and raised on Long Island, she has called New Orleans, Nashville, and Holly Springs, Mississippi, home, but it was in Los Angeles that she first came to national attention in the early 2000’s with her Capitol Black Irish Records debut, Jukebox Sparrows. M.C. Records to Release Guy Davis' Be Ready When I Call You on June 4th
The follow up to his Grammy Nominated 2017 Record CD M.C. Records is proud to announce the release of Be Ready When I Call You by The Ambassador of the Blues, Guy Davis on June 4th. The 13 track release marks a creative high watermark for Guy. For the first time in over a dozen-album career, he wrote nearly everything on the disc, Howlin’ Wolf’s classic “Spoonful” being the sole exception. The first single/video from the record will be “God’s Gonna’ Make Things Over” which revisits a shameful corner in American history, the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921 from May 31-June 1, Guy’s parallel careers as a musician, an author, a music teacher, 1921. In 1981, the group independently recorded and released the “Hell’s Fire” album. Today the album is considered a US metal classic and is considered one of the strongest metal albums ever made by metal aficionados – original copies are hard to find and there’s a hefty price tag if you’re lucky enough to find a copy for sale.
Mistreater is from Creston (population 2000) and was far outside everything and everybody associated with the “hip” music scene in Ohio. Mistreater either didn’t know or care about the scene in nearby Cleveland where bands like proto-punk rockers Electric Eels, Rocket From The Tombs and Styrenes made waves. Pere Ubu and Dead Boys sprang from these roots. The Pagans ruled the Cleveland area during the punk days. Earlier, The Choir, Raspberries and The James Gang were pivotal Cleveland bands. As local audiences were receptive, the city was a major stop-off for touring bands. Similarly, radio station WMMS also had open ears. Nowadays, The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame is located in Cleveland. It goes on – Cleveland and its surroundings were happening. Mistreater was into none of this… Their music was by outsiders for outsiders. More brutal, raw and louder than everyone else. Rough-edged and without gloss, the Mistreater of Hell’s Fire was not aiming for the mainstream. The riffs are stoner hard knock- outs and the guitar leads are psyched-out punches rooted in heavy psychedelia.
Sweden’s On The Dole Records is proud to present the first-ever reissue of “Hell’s Fire”. And in true OTD fashion, no expenses were saved. The band was interviewed for the extensive liner notes, rare photos were found, the sound is remastered and carefully restored, and the non-album single b-side “Baby Blue” is added as a bonus. This is a US metal / D.I.Y masterpiece that should be heard by everyone into hard, loud music and massive guitar riffs. It’s like Greg Sage of The Wipers had gone metal. It would have been the ultimate soundtrack to Tim Hunter’s “River’s Edge” movie with Dennis Hopper. Mistreater were young and had no contacts or new ways to reach out with their music back then… Now the time has come for the resurrection of Mistreater.
Mistreater is not in the nearby Rock’n’roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland. But they should be. This OTD reissue goes to prove it.

In many ways Coco María is like a music detecting sunflower. Just naturally she is turning her ears into the direction from where happily vibrating music from all around the world is emerging. She is a DJ and radio host whose musical selection transmits the energy of the Caribbean, Brazil and the rest of Latin America through records full of samba, jazz, charanga and cumbia, whilst embracing an internationalist vibe that can also include the most eclectic influences.
Besides a great music taste and charming personality, her magic behind the decks comes from the fact that when you listen to her selection it is immediately obvious that she is thrilled to share with other people those amazing songs she finds digging through record shops and all other kinds of quirky places. Meanwhile, her unpretentious and intimate way to speak makes her radio audience feel as if they aren’t listening to a show being broadcasted worldwide, but instead are seating within the intimacy of her living room, sipping up on a coffee and sharing the moment with a small group of friends.
Coco María was starting to extend her musical endeavours beyond her DJ and Radio Sets by throwing a series of parties called “Club Coco” at Berlin’s “Sameheads” venue. The group stretches out on a couple of Tapscott’s originals plus a 19-and-a-half-minute version of Linda Hill’s “Dem Folks.” Although the music could be called avant-garde, its use of rhythms and repetition keep the results from being forbidding and the performances have a momentum of their own.
A great group recording from pianist Horace Tapscott – recorded in LA in the early 80s, but done with all the righteousness and spirituality of his earlier albums! Tracks are long and exploratory, but also relatively lyrical too – stretching out with a style that’s never too “outside”, and which has Horace and the group really soaring to the heavens on the best moments!
