This peace-enforcement force entered Kosovo on June 12, 1999 under a United Nations mandate, two days after the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 1244. While continuing to maintain and develop a climate of safety and security, KFOR is also here to support the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK). UNMIK and KFOR work together in promoting the transfer of increased responsibility to civil authorities, in order to facilitate the withdrawal from large-scale framework operations in Kosovo. KFOR contingents are grouped into four multinational brigades. Although the brigades are responsible for specific area’s of operations, they all fall under the single chain of command of Commander Kosovo Force (COMKFOR). This means that all national contingents pursue the same objective, which is to maintain a safe and secure environment in Kosovo. They do so with professionalism and in an even-handed manner towards all ethnic groups. KFOR troops come from more than 34 nations - NATO and Non-NATO. 3 Sep. 1, 2005 www.nato.int/kfor KFOR CHRONICLE HQ KFOR - FILM CITY HQ KFOR - FILM CITY 4 Sep. 1, 2005 www.nato.int/kfor KFOR CHRONICLE PPAARRAADDEE OOVVEERRVVIIEEWW A French Foreign Legion Band B Multinational Brigade Southwest, Prizren Brigadier General Norbert Stier, GE C Multinational Brigade Northeast, Novo Selo Brigadier General Philippe Tracqui, FR D Multinational Brigade East, Bondsteel Brigadier General John Harrel, US E Multinational Brigade Center, Lipjan Colonel Alesv Vodenahl, CZ F Multinational Specialized Unit, Pristina Colonel Flavio Garello, IT G Kosovo Tactical Maneuver Battalion, Pristina Lieutenant Colonel Carlos Beleza, PO H Hungarian Guards, HQ KFOR Captain Barnabas Bartok, HU I Headquarters Kosovo Force Brigadier General Reinhard Wolski, GE I Headquarters Kosovo Force Brigadier General Jose Prieto, SP J Chief of Staff Kosovo Force Brigadier General Joseph Orr, US 5 Sep. 1, 2005 www.nato.int/kfor KFOR CHRONICLE Since 1831, the French Foreign The Foreign Legion's march: le Legion has been a unique and Boudin distinguished unit within the French Army.
