Its popularity has survived the test of time and people still argue that it's their best work. Our students were beyond thrilled to tackle this record and its recognizable hits, but they were also happily surprised by how much they loved some of the B-sides that accompanied them. They enthusiastically present: The Blue Album (and friends)! Why Bother? After many years of learning a few songs here and there, we finally tackled a full show and the students had a serious challenge getting through these tunes. These 11 songs (yes, only, 11) present so many different skills and ideas that this show is secretly a music theory text book disguised as some classic songs. This show features some of the longest and most difficult pieces ever performed by SoR students, or anyone for that matter. If you have the desire to make noise, you can make a punk song. This in no way diminishes the quality, the energy, or the beauty of the songs we’re showcasing today. If anything, it’s a testament to the importance of the genre that for generations has inspired us to go for it! The punk movement was about freedom to do and to be who you want, and the music that emerged embodied that mentality in every way. So get in the spirit, and KICK OUT THE JAMS!! He is one of the most prolific and collaborative artists making music today. His drumming is distinct and recognizable and his songs are filled with a victorious urgency that elevates everyone who listens. This show has a wide array of music spanning from darker lesser known bands like Killing Joke to family favorites Foo Fighters, to comedic phenomena Tenacious D. Dave Grohl is an inspirational figure to all musicians young and old proving with his body of work that it is not about “making it big” with your music, it’s about making as much music as possible.
