The Journey of the River Nidd
Nidderdale is named after the river Nidd, which goes ‘under’ Lofthouse, through Pateley, Glasshouses, Summerbridge, Darley, Birstwith and Hampsthwaite and is the nearest main river to Burnt Yates, Dacre, Ripley and Bishop Thornton. It starts its journey on the hills above Angram and Scar House Reservoir and runs all the way to the sea at Hull.
The Nidd flows through lots of other town and villages which are all muddled up in the list below.
1. Use a road map, Google Earth or Google Maps to put the correct village in the correct place on the sketch map. Two have been done for you.
2. Colour the river blue with a blue pencil. If you have Google Earth, use it to decide what colour the area around the river should be and colour this in too.
