Firework Lyrics Firework Do you ever feel like a plastic bag, drifting through the wind, wanting to start again? Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin, like a house of cards, one blow from caving in? Do you ever feel already buried deep? Six feet under screams, but no-one seems to hear a thing. Do you know that there’s still a chance for you? ‘Cause there’s a spark in you. You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine, Just own the night like the Fourth of July. Chorus: ‘Cause baby, you’re a firework, come on, show ‘em what you’re worth. Make ‘em go, ‘Aah, aah, aah,’ as you shoot across the sky – y – y. Baby, you’re a firework, come on, let your colours burst. Make ‘em go, ‘Aah, aah, aah,’ you’re gonna leave them all in awe, awe, awe. You don’t have to feel like a wasted space. you’re original, cannot be replaced. If you only knew what the future holds, after a hurricane comes a rainbow. Maybe a reason why all the doors were closed, So you could open one that leads you to the perfect road. Like a lightning bolt, your heart will glow, and when it’s time you’ll know. You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine, Just own the night like the Fourth of July. Chorus Boom, boom, boom, even brighter than the moon, moon, moon. It’s always been inside of you, you, you, and now it’s time to let it through. Chorus Boom, boom, boom, Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon. Boom, boom, boom, Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon. Sunshine in My Heart Out on the street there is sunshine, When two friends meet there is sunshine, When life is sweet there is sunshine, Sunshine in my heart. (Repeat) Sunshine, sunshine, sunshine in my heart. Sunshine, sunshine, sunshine in my heart. Doot doo doo doo doot, doot doo doo. Doot doo doo doo doot doot. Doot doo doo doo doot, doot doo doo. Doot doo doo doo doot doot. Out on the street there is sunshine, When two friends meet there is sunshine, When life is sweet there is sunshine, Sunshine in my heart. Sunshine, sunshine, sunshine in my heart. Sunshine, sunshine, sunshine in my heart. Out on the street there is sunshine, When two friends meet there is sunshine, When life is sweet there is sunshine, Sunshine in my heart. Sunshine in my heart. Sunshine in my heart. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Um-diddle-diddle-diddle, um diddle ay! Um-diddle-diddle-diddle, um diddle ay! Chorus: Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Even though the sound of it is something quite atrocious. If you say it loud enough you'll always sound precocious, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Um-diddle-diddle-diddle, um diddle ay! Um-diddle-diddle-diddle, um diddle ay! Because I was afraid to speak when I was just a lad, My father gave me nose a tweak and told me I was bad But then one day I learned a word that saved me aching nose; The biggest word you ever heard and this is how it goes…oh… Chorus He traveled all around the world and everywhere he went, He'd use his word and all would say there goes a clever gent! When Dukes and Maharajas pass the time of day with me, I say me special word and then they ask me out to tea! Oh… Chorus So when the cat has got your tongue there's no need for dismay (oui, oui!) Just summon up this word and then you've got a lot to say. But better use it carefully or it can change your life One night I said it to me girl and now me girl's me wife! She’s… Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Supercalifragilisticex-pi-a-li-do—cious! Thos Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines Those magnificent men in their flying machines, They go up, tiddlee up, up, They go down, tiddlee down, down. They enchant all the ladies and steal all the scenes, With their up, tiddlee up, up They go down, tiddlee down, down. Up! Down! Flying around, Looping the loop and defying the ground. They’re all frightfully keen, Those magnificent men in their flying machines. They can fly upside-down with their feet in the air, They don’t think of danger, they really don’t care. Newton would think he had made a mistake, To see those strong men and the chances they take. Those magnificent men in their flying machines, They go up, tiddlee up, up, They go down, tiddlee down, down. They enchant all the ladies and steal all the scenes, With their up, tiddlee up, up They go down, tiddlee down, down. Up! Down! Flying around, Looping the loop and defying the ground. They’re all rightfully kings, Those magnificent men, those magnificent men, Those magnificent men in their fly—ing machines. This Is Me I am not a stranger the dark, hide away they say, ‘cause we don’t want your broken parts. I’ve learned to be ashamed of all my scars, run away they say, no one’ll love you as you are. But, I won’t let them break me down to dust, I know that there’s a place for us, For we are glorious. Chorus: When the sharpest words wanna cut me down, I’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown ‘em out, I am brave, I am bruised, I am who I’m meant to be, this is me. Look out, ‘cause here I come; and I’m marchin’ on to the beat I drum, I’m not scared, to be seen, I make no apologies, This is me (oh), oh (oh), oh (oh), oh, (All:) Oh, oh, oh. Another round of bullets hit my skin. Well, fire away, ‘cause today I won’t let the shame sink in We are burstin’ through the barricades and reaching for the sun. We are warriors, And that’s what we’ve become (Yeah, that’s what we’ve become). I won’t let them break me down to dust, I know that there’s a place for us, For we are glorious. Chorus This is me (oh), oh (oh), oh (oh), oh, (All:) Oh, oh, oh. Final chorus (start pp, with 4 beat rest!) Solo: To the beat I drum, Whenever the words wanna cut me down, I’ll send a flood to drown ‘em out. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, this is me. Eye of the Tiger Rising up, back on the street, Did my time, took my chances. Went the distance now I'm back on my feet, Just a man and his will to survive. So many times it happens too fast, You trade your passion for glory., Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past You must fight just to keep them alive. It's the eye of the tiger, it's the thrill of the fight, Risin' up to the challenge of our rivals, And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night, And he's watchin' us all with the eye of the tiger. Risin' up, straight to the top, Had the guts, got the glory. Went the distance now I'm not gonna stop, Just a man and his will to survive. It's the eye of the tiger, it's the thrill of the fight, Risin' up to the challenge of our rivals. And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night, And he's watchin' us all with the eye of the tiger. The eye of the tiger. The eye of the tiger. Candle on the Water I'll be your candle on the water, My love for you will always burn. I know you're lost and drifting, But the clouds are lifting, Don't give up, you have somewhere to turn. I'll be your candle on the water, 'Till every wave is warm and bright. My soul is there beside you, Let this candle guide you, Soon you'll see a golden stream of light. A cold and friendless tide has found you. Don't let the stormy darkness pull you down. I'll paint a ray of hope around you, Circling in the air, lighted by a prayer. I'll be your candle on the water, This flame inside of me will grow. Keep holding on, you'll make it, Here's my hand, so take it, Look for me reaching out to show, As sure as rivers flow; I'll never let you go, I'll never let you go, I'll never let you go. Hold Back the River Tried to keep you close to me but life got in between. Tried to square not being there but it’s there that I should have been. Hold back the river, let me look in your eyes, Hold back the river so wide, And stop for a minute and see where you hide, Hold back the river, hold back. Once upon a diff’rent life we rode our bikes into the sky. But now we’re caught against the tide those distant days all flashing by. Chorus: Hold back the river, let me look in your eyes, Hold back the river so wide And stop for a minute and be by your side, Hold back the river, hold back. Hold back the river, let me look in your eyes, Hold back the river so wide And stop for a minute and see where you hide, Hold back the river, hold back.

1 Paroled Anthony Ehlers Northwestern University, RTVF Scene: A man in a prison cell. He has a bunk, a toilet and sink, a desk and a stool. On the stool is a coffee cup, and scattered papers. There should be indications of bars on either side of his cell, to indicate the presence of other cells. Occasionally he will talk to one of his neighbors, a voice offstage can answer. Two people will walk by his cell and speak with him. Otherwise it is essentially a solo performance. The lighting should be somewhat dim, especially on either side of him, only his cell is lit. A woman walks to his bars with a clipboard. WOMAN Are you Anthony Moon B216173? MOON Yeah, what’s up? WOMAN The state of Illinois has decided that you have paid your debt to society. You’re being paroled. I need you to fill this form out iMMediately. We need an address for you to parole to. 2 M (MOON) Wait, what? WOMAN You’re being paroled. M When? No one said anything to me! WOMAN I’m saying something to you now. M Who did this? Why didn’t I know anything about it? WOMAN I don’t know, that’s above my pay grade. What I need for you to do is fill out that form and have it ready for me when I come back. She begins to walk away M Wait! Miss, hold on! 3 WOMAN What?! M I didn’t ask to be paroled, how can they do this? WOMAN I told you, I don’t know.

  • American Athena a Feminist Sophistic Analysis of the Discourses of Women Servicemembers
American Athena A Feminist Sophistic Analysis of the Discourses of Women Servicemembers Nancy Ann Fox A dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy University of Washington 2020 Reading Committee: Gail Stygall, Chair Anis Bawarshi Candice Rai Christine Harold Program Authorized to Offer Degree English © Copyright 2020 Nancy Ann Fox University of Washington Abstract American Athena: A Feminist Sophistic Analysis of the Discourses of Women Servicemembers Nancy Ann Fox Chair of the Supervisory Committee: Gail Stygall Department of English In classical mythology the goddess Athena is the embodiment of strategic intelligence and prowess in war. She inherited these gifts from her mother, Metis, who carried her to full maturity within the body of her father, Zeus, from whose forehead she was delivered, armed for battle. In this guise she serves as representation for the identities created and conveyed in the discourses of American women servicemembers. This study presents a grounded theory analysis of 99 narratives collected from personal interviews and culled from published sources in which women describe and interpret their experiences as enlisted personnel in the U.S. military. This method, discovered in the 1960’s by Barney Glaser and Anselm Strauss, studies narrative content to discern an emergent theory from that data. Recent renovation of this method by Kathy Charmaz, Adele E. Clarke, and others allows for this theory to align with existing ideas, if relevant and not imposed on the data a priori – which led to the feminist sophistic design of this Athena study, the terms derived from the work of classicist Susan Jarratt and defined by values within the narratives themselves.

My command consisted of myself, two automated recording machines, and a virtual intelligence to manage the machines. • 2019 Delta Winds
A Collection of Student Essays Volume 32 DELTA2019 WINDSDelta Winds, Vol. 32 | 1 LETTER FROM THE EDITORS In the fall of 1991, the first volume of Delta Winds appeared for sale for $2.00 in the bookstore of San Joaquin Delta College. Newly-hired English faculty member Jane Dominik created the magazine with the intent of publishing student essays that “merit a wider reading audience.” Five years later, while standing in line for the commencement ceremonies, she asked Robert Bini and William Agopsowic to take over the reins of her project, which by then had become well- received in the English Department. They agreed under the condition that her biannual publication become an annual publication. They knew they could never keep up with Jane’s pace, but they figured that two of them could do half the work that she did. And even so, it would be a challenge. Over a year period, Bob and Will continued to identify student essays deserving of a wider reading audience. Thanks to a sabbatical leave in 2000, they were able to create an online version of Delta Winds to complement the print version. In doing so, they expanded the audience from those obtaining the locally distributed 800 print copies to an unlimited number of readers on the Internet. With that came easier distribution, and in time publishing houses were regularly knocking on their door, requesting to reprint Delta Winds essays in their textbooks. It has been a real privilege to carry on the rich tradition that Jane, Bob, and Will have passed on to us.

  • Dear Reader, Life Is Full of Firsts. First Breath
Dear Reader, Life is full of firsts. First breath; first steps; first words; first day at school. But it’s the emotional firsts that hit you hardest. The first time you fall in love; hold your child in your arms; or say a final goodbye to a loved one. They’re the ones you can’t forget. A Million Dreams is quite a special first for me too in other ways. It’s not my first book – it’s actually my sixth. But it will be the first of my books that will be published in hardback. And to bring it to you I’ve reunited with my first publishers and editor, which makes it feel as if fate has been playing a part in the proceedings. This book is another first for me, because usually during the writing I will develop a fondness for one particular character. But that wasn’t the case with A Million Dreams. I wanted them all to get exactly what they wanted. But, if you’ve read any of my books before, you probably know that good things don’t always happen to my characters. Please don’t think that A Million Dreams is a book full of sadness, because to me it is actually quite the opposite; it’s full of hope and love. But sad things do happen to two amazing women and the story of how they, and the people around them, deal with that had its hooks in me from the very beginning. I hope you get to love Beth and Izzy every bit as much as I did.
